Aranggak Shrine is another structure adjacent to Yeongnamnu facing the Miryang River. The shrine honors the spirit of Arang, the daughter of a Miryang magistrate during the Joseon dynasty. Legend says a nanny conspired to have her raped. When Arang resisted she was killed and her father mistakenly thought she had eloped with a stranger and resigned in shame. The ghost of Arang would appear to whoever took over the magistrate position until a bold man who took the position finally promised to avenge her death.
