About
Mountain base on top of one of the highest points in Bieszczady National Park - Połonina Wetlinska. Little shop with souvenirs and cold and hot snacks, 20 beds in two rooms. But a big reconstruction work planned for 2019 will see accommodation options disappear, emergency overnight stays only. That's why this place should be concidered an attraction, not accommodation place.

When WWII ended the border between Poland and Soviet Union ran along San river, which made this part of Bieszczady a sort of long and narrow peninsula of Polish land wery hard to protect. To keep an eye on potential smugglers and on Ukrainian partisans crossing border illegaly Polish border force constructed a hut on top of Połonina Wetlińska, using a place renowned for its undisturbed view streaching for miles. In 1951 the border was changed - moved far north, and times become more peaceful, so the border force moved out, abandoning this hut. It was overtaken by PTTK (polish tourist associacion) and turned into a mountain hut, with little shop with snacks and souvenirs, and with very basic accommodation with 20 beds in two rooms. No running water, only a small source about 100 m from the hut. In 1989 Połonina Wetlińska became part of Bieszczady National Park, a this hut, still owned by state, only managed by PTTK, went into Park authority hands (after long court battle). Park decided to modernise the place - that will take place during 2019. This modernisation will make this place more environmently friendly, with own small sewage treatment plant and rainwater collecting facilities, but it will also scrap off those 20 beds - no more accommodation option on Połonina Wetlińska, unless in serious emergency. Hut is reachable from west or east by red trail, which runs along pretty much all Beskidy in Poland, reaching about 450 km all together, also much easier walks from Przełęcz Wyżnia, following yellow or yellow/black trails. Superb viewing point, if you lucky, as it is famous for its long periods of rainy weather.
