- Ruth1 contributionQuirky and magicalAn absolute delight to visit Michael and his unexpected apprentice today in their quirky studio. A pleasure to see such talent at work and to gain insight into the creative process, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. How lovely that we then spotted one of your bats on the swing bridge on our walk home! A highlight of our day. Wishing you all the best. How lovely! Thanks! - Jules F1 contributiona creative experience. If you want to see the creative side of art, then this is the place to be. Michael's rammed workshop is an aladdin's cave of tools and part finished works of art that show his creative process. The crow is a bonus .Thank You! 'rammed' is a perfect description!! - pedlerpeggFleet, United Kingdom170 contributionsInteresting insight into fascinating sculptures!Having arrived in Reeth whilst walking the Coast to Coast, it was a pleasure to be able to visit the Graculus Sculptures studio. Although small, there is a video that runs showing the process of making one of the sculptures and a number of pieces on display. You can also see into the 'man cave' where Michael Kusz works, aided by Joe the Crow! Michael is also very friendly if you get the chance to chat. Some cards etc also on sale. Worth a few minutes to investigate.Thank You! My space was outgrown some years ago, I'm currently working on a solution! Very glad you enjoyed your visit. Tucked away in a small group of industrial units away from the main green in Reeth, this studio is well worth seeking out. Michael was personable, helpful and informative. His sculptures are beautifully made, accessible and infused with love and humour. This is one of a number of high quality businesses on the same estate that are well worth seeking out whilst in Reeth. Highly recommended.

In a word...Amazing! We stumbled upon Graculus Sculptures while having a wander round Reeth on a rainy Thursday. Stepping into the studio was like stepping into a fantasy world. Incredible, beautifuly engineered metal sculptures both complete and under construction each with a completely unique feel to them. We spoke for ages with Michael who is a genuinly nice and very unique person. My wife is a ceramics artist who very rarely ever buys other art work but she was so blown away by the quality and quirkiness of everything that we now have a pair of Michael's beautiful bats hanging in our house. If you're in the area make a point of calling in to Graculus Sculpures...oh, and remember to say hello to Joe the Crow!

We already have a couple of pieces of Michael's work and wanted to visit his studio in Reeth to finally meet him and say how much we like his work. Only a couple of minutes walk up the road from Reeth Green will find his fascinating studio. Don't miss this treat.

This is a really neat place, and definitely a must-see when visiting Reeth. The sculptures are beautiful, carefully crafted from reused metals and full of character. The shapes and colours of the sculptures are cleverly composed, and they have a really lifelike flow to them. One can almost hear the birds wings flapping, or the dragonflies buzzing, or the serpent splashing gently back into the water, because their metalwork is so meticulous that they really feel as if they’re about to come to life. They also have these genious touches added to them, like how some of the parts are movable. Michael showed us a bit about how he made them, and some pieces of new sculptures he’s working on. He, and the whole atmosphere there, were sincerely friendly and welcoming.
Special mention must be made of Jo the Crow, Michael’s apprentice. He hopped about, chattering and mimicking various sounds he’d heard in the workshop, while Michael told us more about him. It’s rare to see a crow up close, especially one quite as tame and friendly.
Thank you for a wonderful experience. These sculptures are a joy to behold.

We came across Michael Kasz marvellous imaginative sculptures by accident when visiting the Reeth Dales Centre. From the metal tree to the bats on his doors and larger than life size crows in all types of poses, we were hooked on these fantastical metal items. Mainly made of recycled copper boilers but beautifully presented and worked to show the different colours and patina of the metal to represent bark, claws, feathers and wings. So pleased that we have purchased a cheeky crow perched on a stump to call our own. I am sure we will be back in the future.

We found this fascinating and friendly sculpture workshop almost by accident! Full of the most creative, fun and skilful work we have seen in a long time, Michael explained to us about his creations and introduced us to Joe the Crow, his most unlikely apprentice! He gave freely of his time to show us in great detail the materials and tools he uses to sculpt such unusual pieces of artwork, and we all really appreciated the opportunity to admire his mesmerising creations. There is nothing like this place, it is a truly 'one of a kind' workshop full of talent and well worth a visit. Highly recommended and thank you Michael!!

Brilliant sculptures, hopefully one day I will be able to afford one of them! Absolutely loved the birds and the bats; would love a bat on the front of my house.

Had a look in at the metal sculpture's which are very nice, after first thinking the door was locked. (twist the large nut used as a door handle) Stayed a little while but owner didn't seem interested in talking to potential customers ? sad really. Joe Crow the resident corvid was making an attempt to make us welcome but I had trouble translating crow speak. :-) We left non the wiser. (Good luck building the wall in the barn)

Sorry I couldn’t give you my full attention I’ve rather a full plate at the moment. I’m self-building my new workshop/home in the mornings and the rest of the day/eve currently preparing work for exhibiting at RHS Rosemoor in their Winter Sculpture Exhibition 2020. Though I try to engage with interested parties when I can, I also have customer orders, galleries to resupply and new works to develop and am not always wired well enough to jump from calculation to conversation (especially when deadlines are looming).
I have a regular stream of visitors and over the last twenty years of business I’ve found it better to allow people uninterrupted browsing and the space to enquire.
As metalworking processes tend to destroy clothing and spread grime, I’ve often thought it better to not unsettle visitors with a direct approach. Jo is the ‘front-man’ and usually attracts the initial enquiries to which I respond, I also leave him in charge when I’m busy.
Hopefully on your next visit life will be a little less fraught for me and I can explain more then translate some of Jo’s sales pitch.

Concentrating largely on creating sculptures from old copper (cylinders etc), here are some truly amazing art forms and you actually visit the artist in his workshop, where he is happy to spend time talking with you about his work and his passion.
