We visited Hruba Skala and Český ráj for a day of walking while holidaying in Prague. We weren't expecting the sheer beauty that we found there. The rock town was awe inspiring and the views were nothing short of breath-taking.
Had we known what to expect, we might have allowed more time!
There are places to park around the area, we decided upon Castle Hill Car park, near Hotel Stekl, which had signs showing prices that were quite reasonable at Kc30 p/h.
The hotels were closed and there was nobody around though, so we didn't have to pay as there was no one to pay. The hotel had a sign stating that they were closed until April.
If you're in the area and are looking for a walk to last the day, you should go here and take as much time as you can, the place is incredible!

There is the good parking for the cars just near the Castle Hruba Skala (even little bit small) or there is possible to park the car in Sedmihorky. So, after the car parking, you can go to the rocks. There is several pathways, depends how long trip you want or can. Take some water with you in bag. Be ready for the stairs to the view points, but the view is amazing. It is good to buy the paper map or the guide (available in small shop near the parking), there is able to see the names of almost each rock. It´s very nice trip for half or full day, also good for families.

Park your car in Sedmihorky. Then go to Hruba Scala Castle by green track (appr. hour with kids). Important note: all tracks are marked - don't follow any unauthorized arrows (by the way, we bought a Hruboskalska regional tracks map, very recommended). The last part of green track fascinating - huge rocks in the middle of the forest. But it's only the beginning. Near hotel Stekl there are several places to eat and rest. Then it's possibility to continue by red track: 300 meters by road from parking and up, then to the right into the forest.
On the red track there are at least three viewpoints. If you didn't visit the you didn't see nothing in Ceske Raj. Vihladka a Kapelu - it's amazing! Must see. Free your imagination and enjoy the best views!
By the way, we did it in two days, I wish I had more days planned for this place.
I got a recommendation to continue the red track to Valdstein Castle and than to close the loop to Sedmihorky parking by another track. We stopped at the third viewpoint and then turned back.

We were staying in Jicin so caught the train to Hruba Skala- this runs every two hours- did the walk following the blue route and then the red route- we did have the Ceske Raj walking Map bought from tourist office which helped us decide which route to take- the routes are very well marked- we went to Turnov and had lunch there and caught train back from Turnov Mesto. As the trains only run around every two hours it is worth checking beforehand. We had a great day.

But to find the right place for parking and start hiking was difficult. We asked other people. The walk and the views were really great! It would be good to buy a good map where you can find the different trails.

Hruba Skala is one of the main attractions of Cesky Raj (Bohemian Paradise). This might overstate it slightly but it is an attractive region of limestone formations. This trail to Hruba Skala can be picked up directly from Turnov, near the Turnov mesto station. The trail follows along the ridge top through the Hruba Skaly rock town (not really a town, just a series of limestone pillars that look like a city). Turnov is an attractive town that makes a good base. We found the Hotel Paradis (just past the central square) pretty good value with a nice in-house restaurant.

and you will be in a different world! You can leave your car at the parking place in Hruba Skala and go for pleasant 5 km hike (even with stroller or smaller children accesable) to Valdstejn castle. You will admire rock formations on the way and when coming back, you can have lunch at the hotel Stekl or on the terace of hotel Hruba Skala. Perfect day trip!

Lovely walk in great Rock formations and with great views. We we walked about 10 km and it was a really nice activity. There are also stops on the route, where you can get a pitstop and something to drink. There are several routes and the signs could be better, but we reached our destination. We met many mountainbikers, that would also had been fun.
