Bohemian Paradise
Prachov Rocks

The most popular sandstone rocks town in the Bohemian Paradise
is situated near 60 km from Prague (Czech Republic).
With wife were here in April 2012 - this is the beginning of the season in the city of rocks.
Recommended for those who like to walk, climb and not a fear of heights and narrow gorges.
Heavily segmented plateau was created of sandstones sediments
and arenaceous marls during the Mesozoic era.
Visitors can enter to the Prachov rocks (Prachovské Skály) area from April to October.
It is a real paradise for rock climbers and tourists.
Detailed hiking maps are available at the entrance to the rocks,
but there are also thorough information boards and signposts at
regular intervals along the trails.
Tourists are attracted to this area mainly by the dense network of marked tourist trails
with frequent viewpoints which reveals the interior of rock city.
Here we spent about 3 hours, but you can spend the whole day.
Near the main entrance there are several cafes where you can eat and quench your thirst. Also there are pay toilets, which are also popular.
The uniqueness of the Prachovske skaly is in the diversity of the terrain with
large number of sandstone blocks and needles, ravines and glens.
The geological history of the Prachovské Skály area is rather varicoloured – the beginnings
of the sandstone formations date back to the Mesozoic era,
when the whole territory was flooded with sea water ...

Kost or Bone is a castle dating back to 13th century. You can hike, bike or drive there. The parking is 60czk for the day and there is much more to see than the castle only. Smaller kids will have fun with some of the games the staff has available right next to a very comfortable food corner. Watch out the tours happen every two hours. It takes 90 minutes for the entire castle tour. Tour guides are super knowledgeable and speak multiple languages. Bonus- not too many people are willing to pay to get a tour so we had a personal tour. Oh, yes this castle has the worlds largest hand made map. It took the author 30 years to finish in the early 1600. Also, the staff has had some supernatural and unexplainable experiences. There is a “good luck” bell and it’s believed that whoever touches/chimes it will get a full year of good luck. Of course Czechs believe that most castles are haunted. Strangely this castle doesn’t really have a violent history although the exhibit shows off medieval system of torture.

During the summer I visit this castle every week with my clients. Castle is very well preserved and shows how people lived in Middle Age. Interiors are interesting and well preserved too. Staff is helpful and guides are knowledgeable. Tours are in Czech language, but they have nice texts many languages. Recommended!

We are happy to know that you are a return visitor. As you probably know, this is a privately-owned castle and we do our very best to offer our visitors a memorable experience. Every year we try to improve something- it's quite a challenge.

Outside is nice, but tours are only in Czech,no other language . You have to join a Czech speaking tour and get a brochure in English. Every 15 minute start new tours but not even 1 in English or German.. can’t visit the castle by yourselves.

We are very sorry that you didn't have a positive experience with us. We are developing an audioguide in English and other languages for next year. We have tour guides because most visitors are Czech and prefer them, but also because of logistics. We hope to improve that in the future. Thanks for your patience.

Great setting, very photogenic. No English tours which is a shame. You can buy food and drink there and there is a reasonable amount of parking. It is not well sign posted so do your research

If you're a castle entusiast this should be on your list. It is a above average castle which is very nice to look at. I would recommend walking the short tour around the castle, just to appreciate the beautiful nature and castle. The tour cost is about the same as every other castle and is worth the money if old history and architecture is of your interest. Unfortunately the castle suffers from the same problem as many other attractions in The Czech Republic, that there is a profound shortage of foreign speaking guides, and if you want one, you will have to pay extra. That said, they do offer a student discount.

For the nature lovers. Sandstone rock formations are unusual and unique, the views are beautiful. It is a paradise for rock climbers or just people out for a nice long walk. The trails are well marked and when we were there, it was not overrun by tourists.
Just one of many possibilities for a day trip out of Prague. Bohemian Paradise (Cesky Raj) is definitely worth a visit.

The castle is beautiful and well worth seeing. I did not arrange for the tour, so I am not clear if English language tours are available, but we ended up on a Czech tour. We had English language sheets, but it is a LONG tour, and there is a lot of standing around if you don't understand what you are listening to.

This castle is just 15min drive away from the beautiful, touris-frequented natural wonder of Prachovske Skaly (amazing unique "forest" of tall rocks you can hike through and around in hours in admiration) ... so if you go, I highly recommend both: the rocks and this castle ... it is a perfect day-trip. We did the castle in the morning, "Prachovske skaly" in the afternoon)

Apart from being uniquely shaped and preserved from the outside this castle has an amazing collection of shooting weapons of all kinds and shapes spanning over centuries inside, The other very remarkable things not to miss is the kitchen (very well equipped). And the "must" is the dungeon (mucirna) or torture chamber: an unique collection of all conceivable medieval torture tools. The tour guide will narate very interestingly, it will capture adults as well as the kids.

Wending our way around the area we came across the castle. The kids could not miss a visit so we paid for the parking and then we were all dismayed to discover, after paying the entrance, that the performance was not in English. A quick in and out visit but I think that things should have been clearer.
