It seems like you are in another time because the landscape is spectacular!
We ate in the restaurant very well: huge and delicious cachopo (1 for two teenagers), spectacular fabada and the "brutal" chorizo with cider.
I recommend visiting the museum with prior reservation because it gets crowded, the guide explains it very well and is very attentive.

Fantastic guided tour. The conservation of the environment is exceptional and the guide makes you understand the lives of the people who lived in the whole. Attention! Book the tour in advance because if not, it is very likely that the trip will be for nothing, several people were left wanting to enter for that reason. Wear non-slip shoes if rain is expected. For lunch, there is a soup kitchen with homemade food in the same place. We recommend booking too. Parking is about 100 m away and very small, if you are unlucky you will have to park in the gutter. We were lucky to have a group from the previous shift.

Parking is limited . Then you walk about 100 meters to the entrance where your guide will meet you. The tour last about 45 minutes, easy walk and very informative.

Besides the interesting visit that in itself Teixois is, don´t forget the charming eatery just at the entrance of the complex -Meson El Mazo-. There, you can get tasty homemade food sitting in a rustic hut, surrounded everywhere by green, with a small river flowing just below. Charming. Relaxing place. At a good price, you can take a bite before you visit the complex.

I had read only 4 lines in English before visiting this place and it didn’t really explain what happened there. However it did whet my appetite to explore and how glad my husband and I are that we did.
First there is the restaurant, which we didn’t know existed. There we had a delicious lunch. The fact the lights went off from time to time just added to its charm and we moved into the bar for our coffee.
Basically this is the equivalent of a British grade 1 listed village near Taramundi. Long ago the village used water as a labour saving device, and the villagers had the ability to adapt the water flow depending on the job they wanted to do.
In the 1970s the number of families living there declined and the village then became a working museum. The equipment on display has been in use for several hundred years.
Noe our waiter in the restaurant was very good and helped me choose a pescatarian dish. My husband had pork ribs. This was followed by cheesecake and grandma’s pudding. Everything is homemade and delicious.
Hector our guide spoke first in Spanish and then to us in English. He was excellent. We found it so interesting but it would also be a very good family outing. It may not be suitable for people who are not good on their feet and unfortunately does not have wheelchair access on the tour.

From Taramundi, a great example of well-kept village from the asturian southwest area, it is worth to reach this place. Very interesting guided tours with live demos of a series of water-driven old engines.
The restaurant serves reasonably good food at a good price with fantastic service. Try there “costillas” (ribs) and “tarta de la abuela” (homemade gramma’s pie).

This open museum is indeed a well keep place ahead of Taramundi. An amazing set of buildings with machines from 1800's that served this small village of 9 families. Everything is working and is well preserved, well guided.

I recommend this place even thought it is way off the beaten path . I suggest parking on the right below the town and walking up the path which could be right out of lord of the rings . They have a restaurant that cools the bottles in the stream that runs by the village

It is a bit tricky to find in a map, but once you are in Taramundi there are signs in every crossroad.

Nice tour, very well explained, all with the original tools and machinery. Probably all visits are in spanish and with no written guide, though. There are many per day, mostly at half past.

The moss, oaks and chestnut tree give it a feeling of fairy forest, while the mill, whetstone and forge show how hard life was back then.
