Nice archological site with a nice view of the valley and surrounding mountains. Contrary to what the guide mentioned there are pannels explaining the history of each location. To maybe convince your kids: my daughter catched a lot of new Pokemons here...

When someone visits south Crete, he should definately pay a visit in Faistos. Faistos was the second important city, after Knossos, during the second millennium bc. It is advisable to visit the place with a guide in order to get the most of it.

We visited both Knossos and Phaistos and all liked Phaistos better. Even though it's a smaller site, it feels more authentic without the rebuilt parts that were added to the Knossos palace and there are a lot fewer people so your visit will feel a...More

On the road from Matala to Mires you will find the Minoan site of Phaestos. Second only to Knossos further north, the site is expansive. The openness of the site and lack of cover make it very hot in summer so be prepared. The whole...More

I was really amazed by the palace ruins of Phaistos - the fact, that they are some 4000 years old was really impressive. For an interested tourist, this seems in very good condition. You can walk all around the ruins, places, entrances. Some areas are...More

This is the sister palace to Knossos but has not had the same extensive restoration treatment and so allows you to see it as it was discovered. Further off the beaten track than Knossos you don't have to battle the crowds and are free to...More

We visited Knossos, and then drove to Phaistos a few days later. Both are major Minoan palace sites, but this one has none of the controversial reconstruction nor cruise ship crowds you will see at Knossos. It has a very clear walk path, but with...More

I have visited Phaistos two days after being in Knossos. This place is not recovered in the way like in Knossos. And this is why I like that place. What has left in my memories is the location of the palast. Great overview, perfect position...More

Hire a car but be ready for some exciting cretan driving and definitely buy the double ticket and go to Agia Triada as well. Deserted most of the time and stunning.
