We booked a tour to go see the show about the Portico. it was amazing. Call the tourist office or go there to book. Well worth it. It only last 9 minutes and then you can take photos and visit the church inside. We have many beautiful photos of this experience. We highly recommend it.

Iglesia de Santa Maria de los Reyes is the main church of Laguardia, a wine town in La Rioja-Alavesa, in Basque Country. It was began to built in 12th Century in Romanesque-style, but it was finished in 15th in Gothic-style. It is very nice, and you can go there in old streets seeing the church. Pitifully it was closed, when we visites the town in October.

Charming place to visit with your friends, family or even your couple. You can buy the ticket for three euros and the visit take 15-20 minutes. The surroundings are spectacular. I recommend to visit it.

This is a very impressive tour. The art and architecture is superb. The lady at the office where you get the tickets speaks Spanish and not much else. Someone in your group needs to understand the language for the tour.

Unique piece of medieval stone carving art, nicely preserved with original colors.
Light show makes good job. The only issue is that the explanation is in Spanish only.
But the beauty is still there.

I had been told how beautiful this church was but sadly I was very disappointed when I got there to discover it is not generally open. It's only possible to go inside as part of a tour which runs at certain times. I only had very limited time in Laguardia as I was on my way to the ferry at Bilbao so therefore could not wait for a tour. Hopefully next time I can see inside and appreciate its beauty. In the grounds just outside there was some very interesting brass sculptures of all kinds of footwear and bags!

The little town of Laguardia has nice picturesque streets. At the end of the village along the wall you will find the beautiful Iglesia de Santa María de los Reyes which has a breathtaking 14th century Gothic doorway. It has beautiful sculptures of the disciples and many other motifs. The church itself is also worth visiting but the gothic doors are unique.
If the church doors are locked you can get the key at the tourist office or there are guided tours during the summer months.
A must see in the area.

There are guided tours through this church and a presentation in Spanish, that highlights the outer portion which houses some spectacular carvings. There are English notes so you can follow along. Once over, you can go inside the main church which is also impressive given the size of the town where it sits. Definitely worth the $2 euro entrance fee. Check schedules, as it is generally opened only once a day.

This is a different kind of church. I often hear grumbles from my husband about seeing another church, but this one we both agreed was different. The small tour does a light show (sounds touristy, but it's not) that is truly special. The carvings, art and gold in this church is spectacular. Definitely memorable to see.

Although the expressive tour guide spoke spanish, she provided an English handout which provided the all the basics. They dramatize the portico viewing by starting in the dark and shining lights on the various aspects. I loved this and brought my mom and sister back the next day so they could also see and view this beautiful little church. Highly recommend! Takes less than an hour from your day and well worth it!
