We went there with our 2.5 and 5.5 years old children. You take the cable car up the mountain for a about 10 min and the hike starts 100 min from the end station. There is a restaurant in the beginning. We walk to the next station, about 2-3km. On the way there is a sound stop every 500m. On each stop there is some kind of installation that lets your children experience and taken part of different ways of making sounds. It is a great great experience and the hike is easy. We went with one stroller. When ready we took the train back down to the valley and then a bus back to the car. (The bus fare is included in the ticket price for the cable car)

What a great idea!!! Go for this lovely 6 km walk up in the green pastures of Toggenburg and your children will love you forever:-) Just imagine: there are some 30 sound installations and each single stop your child (or even you:-) is supposed to make a noise - what a child dream!!! The ringing bells of the cows around are just the top of the milk... Oh and dont forget matches + an old newspaper + some meat for the picnick stop on the way where the wood is already prepared for you!!!

The Klangweg is a must see in this area of Switzerland. The trail starts near Wildhaus and ends near Alt St Johann. Not a steep trail but it offers incredible vistas of the Ober Toggenburg valley. What makes this trail unique is that along the trail are "stops" that have different devices or instruments that make unique sounds some of which echo through the valley. This area is noted for handmade musical instruments and they have taken this talent to the trail for you to enjoy. Try out the 2 story wind chime or the "oboe like" tones from the rock wall. If lucky you will run across the people that play the Alpenhorns and be able to hear their haunting tone resounding down the valley. If hiking the entire trail sounds like to much, you can take the cog train from Unterwasser to the half way point up the Chäserrug to the Iltios point which is the mid way point for the Klangweg. From there you can hike either half of the trail or continue up to the summit and enjoy the view of the Walensee.

Having 23 sound installations, this trail is full of fun for adults and children, and provides a whole healthy day in nature. All the instruments in natural environment are of great interest for kids as they can try to play them on their own. Finally, tired, but not exhausted, the family returns from this pleasant trip to nature and world of sounds.
