About
Quealy Winery Cellar Door takes you right into the heart of the winery, tasting amidst the barrels and Tuscan terracotta amphora. Kathleen and Kevin first arrived on the Mornington Peninsula in 1988 and have spent the subsequent years cultivating a reputation for single vineyard expressions of regional heroes Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, sourced from some of the oldest and finest sites on the Peninsula. Quealy's experience of Italian wine-making tradition has inspired Secco Splendido, Pobblebonk, Pinot Grigio and little-grown Friulano variety. Open daily, come and taste with our experienced team including resident cellar paw, Ninja.

After arriving & walking out of Port Phillip winer, only a few minutes before, after being ignored by staff. We arrived at this delightful winery and made very welcome. The wine was very good and we bought a bottle. Thank you. the man was perfect for the job.

From the moment we arrived we had a very warm welcome. The tasting room with the terracotta vats had a fabulous atmosphere and I loved the smell of the fermentation. The wine tasting was a wonderful experience. We learnt a lot about winemaking and about these particular wines and the grapes and the climate they are grown in. Our group bought an amount of the various wines. As we open them we remember the special afternoon spent at your magnificent winery and the fun we had with your exceptional staff. I can’t wait to return with more friends! Thank you for making my trip to Victoria so worthwhile. And thank you for kindly posting my shawl to me.

I visited here (in January 2018) for 2 reasons, I was keen to sample the wine & I have the same family name (though I haven't found a clear link as yet). I was greeted like a long lost brother by the down to earth & very warm hearted Kathleen. I especially liked the tour of the backroom with the huge earthenware pots (replicas of Roman times). It was so interesting to see some of Kathleen's wines made using this ancient method. The winery was very picturesque & the wines delicious, but the hospitality was supreme. Mark Quealy

My wife and I just made our third trip to Australia visiting friends and family. We were there for three weeks and visited nearly fifty Halliday five star cellar doors in five different wine growing areas - Mornington Peninsula, Margaret River, Barossa, MacLaren Vale and Clare Valley. We visited Quealy, which is a smaller cellar door, and really enjoyed good quality wines. If you are visiting Mornington Peninsula and are serious about wines, Quaely is not to be missed. Well done and thanks Dan, the wine maker, for a great cellar door visit and tasting

Much obliged John and we're very glad you dropped in on what sounds like an epic tour. You timed it well, Dan is often a bit busy making the wine to be in Cellar Door but it's a real treat when he is.

Excellent. We come away with, collectively, 10 bottles which we almost finished half of during our stay in a local b&b. So this should give u an idea of the quality. Included in that were 2 bottles of late harvest/botrytis which are so full of the spirit of the grape it's hard to not 'oohhh' after a sip.
The guy helping us through the tasting was really informative and personable. Really makes a difference in the experience and we were even treated to some homemade pita bread crisps. Great experience and we'd all recommend this place to all.

This is the second time that we have visited Quealy, and both times have reiterated why Kathleen Quealy and her team make the best pinot gris in Australia. I have generally found the pinot grigio/pinot gris available in many bars in Melbourne to be quite insipid, especially when compared to the NZ ones (and yes, I'm Australian!). To come across pinot gris, from the Mornington Peninsula, with so much flavour, was a total eye (and taste-bud) opener. There are a few different wine styles available at the Quealy cellar door, with something for the white as well as red as well as sparkling wine lover. K Quealy is often the person serving at cellar door, and she is an amazing character with a lot of wine knowledge and love of all things vinified. Well worth a visit.

Dear macfitz1,
I'm sorry it's taken a few weeks to get back to you with a ginormous thank you! Such a thoughtful and effusive review. I have to agree with you on the Pinot Grigio & Gris - I feel I can as I have nothing to do with the winemaking! Kathleen's passion for the variety throughout her career is second to none and that shows in the glass. We hope to see you at Cellar Door again sometime.
Best regards,
Chris

Have been to this cellar door for Quealy Wines many times and always something new to taste. The staff, including the "boss", are always very helpful describing the wines as you taste them. Fabulous atmosphere in the cellar amongst the barrels and somewhere to sit if needed (I do). Plenty of parking and if you're lucky, a Koala in the gum tree. (no luck) this last visit.
The wines are very drinkable and a great range for all tastes.
Just be careful when leaving and going on to the Bittern-Dromana Road.
Well worth going.

Thank you Roger for your comprehensive review, it really captures what we're trying to do at our Cellar Door. The koala is basking in the sun this afternoon, she's prone to retreat during more inclement weather!

We were on a private winery bus tour of Mornington Peninsular and our first winery stop was Quealy Winemakers. We were met with an understated entrance to a storage shed, filled with wines and casks and all things wine. Our host was Scott, who is one of the staff at Quealy. What a pleasure it was listening a person with a hospitality background - read customer focused - providing his passionate knowledge of Quealy's product, not to mention other anecdotes of life. Some of the wine was average, some was pretty damn good. There were lots of sales made, and that was as much the way it was presented as it was the wine itself.
This was our first stop on our weekend and set a high benchmark for all other wine-tastings that followed.

This vineyard tucked away in the back blocks of Balnarring is one of the jewels in the crown on the Mornington Peninsula. The 17 Rows Pinot Noir is a superb example of the style and is surpassed by none. It comes from the 17 rows of the oldest pinot noir grapes on the peninsula. The Quealy Pinot Grigio, Musk Creek Pinot Gris and Tussie Mussie Pinot Gris are truly delicious....making Kathleen Quealy the queen of Pinots.
In addition, the vineyard produces some amazing blends.....a Tuscan super white that has been loved for some years, Pobblebonk, and a beautiful and very sumptuous red blend of Pinot, Sangiovese, Shiraz, with a dash of Merlot called Rageous.
I can't recommend this bineyard and its wines more highly.
Great food wines and excellent for quaffing.

Welcomed to Quealy by Louise (Lou) who took us through an informative and interesting tasting of their great wines - especially the silky Musk Creek Pinot Noir. Lou also provided absolutely delicious nibbles (I need to get her secret recipe for the Parmesan crisps!) and also beautiful amoretti biscuits. I will take Lou’s advice and serve a wonderful cocktail using their Balnarring Vineyard Muscato Rosa East! We left with 6 diverse bottles and so happy we stopped at Quealy. We will be back to enjoy a cheese platter and another tasting soon - hopefully Lou will be there to serve us! 🍇
