Went for a pizza with a friend and the food was great. Small mistake on the bill but there service was excellent and they sorted it in a lovely friendly professional way. Will be back soon.

My husband and I visited a couple of weeks ago. It was our first visit to The Gallery Bar and as it was the weekend of Valentine's Day we thought it best to book in advance, and I am glad we did as they were very busy! On arrival we made our way down the stairs to the Cellar, we were immediately welcomed by our waitress Jane, who was very busy making cocktails for a big table but showed us to our table. We were then left with menus and a jug of water (a nice touch). We started our evening with cocktails and ordered pizzas. After our pizzas, we were enjoying the atmosphere so much that we moved from our table into the bar area and sat at the bar with a bottle of wine. The place was buzzing, and had a great atmosphere. Whilst we were sat at the bar, a gentleman (manager maybe, think his name was Sam) came out offered us a bowl of chips that were going spare which my husband tucked into happily. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was friendly, the drinks great! A fantastic little find in Castle Cary! We will definitely be returning with friends as soon as I can organise babysitters 👍🏼😁…

Hi Rachel, Jane here. Thank you for your very personal review of my customer service skills, however I feel I must address some of the key issues you raised against me as I have a somewhat differing view of events and feel it has been unfairly portrayed. You are indeed correct, there was a considerable wait for cocktails as each is hand made and there were 8 orders ahead of your order. I politely advised you (as is done with all other customers in this situation) that there would be a wait for your choice of beverage and you seemed more than happy when changing your mind and selecting a glass of Prosecco to avoid the delay. You are also correct in your remark about the availability of a table, I mistakenly advised you that we did not have a table available immediately for a walk in, fortunately my colleague was aware of an empty table at the rear of the restaurant and was able to rectify this and we were able to offer you one immediately. I personally laid it up with cutlery and the jug of tap water you requested and offered to seat you, however, you said you would like to drink your Prosecco at the bar before placing your food order. You were subsequently offered another table in the front bar a short time after as you seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere of the bar area and conversing happily with both bar staff and your partner, which you accepted. Therefore your comment about having to sit to the bar (in a manner that obstructed any other patrons from accessing it) is a mystery. I would like to offer my apologies that nobody checked on you, that is our error as you moved from one area to another and the member of staff was not aware you were now under their care so omitted to check you. I would also like to apologise for the mistake involving the bill, it was entirely my fault, I accidentally pressed the wrong button on the till. Thankfully an itemised receipt was given and your partner was able to spot my error, for which I apologised profusely for when he came to the bar and brought it to my attention, as did my colleague who issued him with a full cash refund immediately, maybe this happened outside your earshot as you were still sat at your table some distance away from the situation? I am sorry I was unable to meet your exacting standards during your visit, I personally really do try my best to ensure every customer is satisfied, however people’s views of what constitutes good customer service can be very subjective, and unfortunately on this occasion we, like the many other establishments you have left 1 star reviews for, were unable to live up to your expectations. You will see from other previous reviews that many people think very highly of the service we all offer, and return very regularly to spend many enjoyable evenings with us. My intention in responding to your review is not to be sarcastic nor insulting, simply just to provide a balanced and concise view of my version of events. Once again I am very sorry that you felt we didn’t live up to your expectations and were prompted to leave a somewhat personal review of several members of staff, but would like to take this opportunity to invite you to return on another occasion when we would be delighted to accommodate you again.…

Came to Castle Cary for a romantic weekend with my boyfriend and after several lovely ‘pub grub’ type meals, we fancied something a bit different for our final evening meal. We hadn’t booked so expected to wait. Asked whether they had a table and Jane (Bartender) said no whilst her colleague said they could find one for us. We said we could wait at the bar and have a drink until a table became available and Jane again said ‘well I’m making 8 cocktails so you’ll have to wait’. Her colleague (think her name was Mollie?) said that she would make drinks for us. We were pre warned that a table wouldn’t be ready until 8.15 ‘8.30 at the latest’ - this was at 7.50pm. At 8.35pm we’d had no update or offer of a table even though there were several empty tables and we were sat at the bar so the staff couldn’t easily forget we were waiting. We asked to order our food and then at 8.50pm asked if we could move from the uncomfortable bar stools to a free table. We then waited another 15 minutes and our food came out. The food was good. My boyfriends calzone was really tasty. My pizza was decent but I asked for extra salami which didn’t materialise. Small issue but on top of the overall poor customer service was quite annoying. We weren’t asked whether our food was alright or if we wanted anything else. We went up to the bar to pay our bill and were charged £63 which seemed high considering we’d had two drinks each and 2 pizzas. Luckily my boyfriend asked for an itemised receipt and we saw they’d charged us for a bottle of Prosecco when we’d only had one glass. We raised this and the manager came and refunded the extra we’d paid. He didn’t apologise for the error which I thought was rude. I am anticipating the sarcastic and defensive response to this review from the owners, given their response to other reviews. I’d just like to point out that if these issues are recurring it’s clearly an issue and that most of your staff are great and clearly trying their best. It’s a shame that some are clearly either out of their depth or just not trained in customer service. Food and venue are great but service hugely lets it down. …
