Visiting Yanaka, and mainly its cemetery is mainly a question of personnal approach. Here death seems not to be considered as anything else than part of life. Makes your own opinion ...

It's a bit out of the way, but very much worth the walk, even in 35+ degrees. It was nearly deserted when we visited, which gave it all a bit more atmosphere. The grave of the last shogun was nice, but the other graves are...More

Beautiful Yanaka off the beaten path. The cemetery is spectacular, secluded, silent, peaceful, only populated by a bunch of crows, which give it a perfect atmosphere. We discovered that right outside one of the gates of the cemetery there is a tour bus that travels...More

Traveling cemeteries can be enjoyable as well. It is interesting to see how people tend to their dead. It is usually calm and peaceful and a good not touristic place to walk around and relax or contemplate.

A cemetery may not be everyone's idea of a sightseeing attraction but just to walk down the road that runs through the middle of this huge cemetery with it's overhanging cherry trees in full bloom is relaxing and peaceful.

The cemetery is not too far from Ueno Park, so we decided to go there for a short walk. It is a beautiful, very peaceful place. While Ueno was full of crowds, we hardly saw anyone at the cemetery itself, although it is maybe 10/15...More

We didn't went there on purpose, we just couldn't avoid walking through. It would have been a good idea to search for famous people though, but I really didn't know anything about the place that time. It was the cemetery with the best atmosphere I've...More

If you have some time, to walk around the cemetery you will see that are many other prominent figures and historians also buried in this cemetery. Defintely worth the visit!

Never knew a cemetery could be so beautiful. Came during a week day and walked the main cherry blossom lined path; while viewing locals paying their respects to the ancestors. You will need to take the JR Yamanote line to Nippori Station and the cemetery...More

It probably appears very morbid to be reviewing a cemetery, but this place is just wonderful. Lots of people around tending to their relative's graves, lots of life, flowers and people just taking it all in. It is also a wonderful (and probably one of...More

Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
