The area

Address
Neighborhood: Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.

There must have been 2,000 people either in a line waiting to get in or packed into the store in a line snaking around the store. I'd imagine people were waiting 3 to 6 hours to get through the line to do god knows what. So, we went there and looked at that and left. If you love Pokemon more than life and want to wait for all of that, then you may absolutely love this place. But my kids just occasionally play the game so it didn't make any sense for us to go here.

Nothing really unique in the center itself. A lot of the items could have been bought down in the Toys R Us on the other floor. My 7 year old was in heaven. Be prepared to wait forever we got there at opening but still had to get "tickets" to wait in line at 1pm. The statues outside of the center are neat and the life sized Pokemon Go leaders were cool for a photo op, but I don't feel like this was a must do while in Japan.

So much to see at this Pokémon center! It was hard to limit ourselves on what to buy. As a bonus, the new Pokemon Go center and Pikachu Sweets bakery are right next door, as is a mini Pokémon arcade and soft play area. The whole area is a must for anyone who loves Pokémon!

An essential stop for anyone who is (or is shopping for a) Pokémon fan. The size of the location ensures that there is a huge selection of merchandise which is often rotated so it is worth going anytime you are in Tokyo.
I made the mistake of going the day after the release of a new game so it was a complete madhouse but the staff are well organized and you will be spending all your yen in no time.

To start off with, this place is big. It has not only the standard merchandise, but also a Pokemon Go lab, a place for doing the TCG battles, a small arcade area with the new Mezastar game, a small Pokemon gachapon area, and a Pokemon sweets shop. You are definitely not short of variety when you come here.

However, the day I came, the stock was quite poor. Despite the big store, it felt alarmingly empty compared to the other Pokecenters I have been to. Perhaps just the luck of the draw but couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed about my visit.

After a disappointing visit to a runner-up Pokemon Centre in Osaka, I was rather impressed with what Mega Centre Tokyo has to offer. They have everything Pokemon from utensils to apparel, made for the fanatics. Nintendo should seriously just concentrate on only one Pokemon store strictly for their merchandise so to increase the patron numbers and not to have the other stores sparsely inventorised.

It's such a great place if your son is a pokemon Fan! And really, he came there prepared to spend his christmas money! But sadly, all trading cards were in Japanese. This was definitely not worth the 20min cab from Ginza.

My husband and I LOVE Pokemon and are collectors of the first generation Pokemon cards. This place was awesome! The merchandise was incredible with a plushie for lots of different pokemon. My only criticism would be there there isn't much to do there. But definitely worth a visit to pick up some rare merch :)

Going to this place is my number one agenda when i arrived in Tokyo. First thing in the morning, i went to this place and surprisingly there are a lot of people visiting this place. You can see in everyone’s face the excitement of picking and choosing what to buy. Lots of Pokemon stuff like plushies, bags, towwels, shirts, name it they have it. If you love Pokemon, this place is heaven for you
