Went to Sunshine City Aquarium with my 5 years old girl. The aquarium itself is kind of small compare to other countries but some species provided are quite special. It is not very crowded as we went in around 5pm on Wednesday. Kind of dark inside. Merchandise selling in the store are not entirely from the aquarium - they sell... More

One of the best aquarium we visited. It's small but there are lots of things to see. The shark tank was great with lots of fish and a few sharks swimming. Then a diver got into the tank and talked to the audiences. Great for little children. Then there was this strange looking Ocean Sunfish. Great place to visit if... More

A lovely Aquarium. A little pricey to enter but once you're in you can understand why. Some amazing creatures, very nicely displayed with a lot of space. Very clean with accessible toilets. A nice sized restaurant offering hot and cold food. The shop was reasonably priced which was nice since we wanted to bring home a memento of our visit... More

went here during winter season late December 2016, packed with guests that bring all their family member, cost you 2000 yen for adult, and 1000 for kids. if you look for Aquarium or seaworld I will recommend Hakkei jima SEA PARADISE, more worthed.

I'm happy enough to see fish swimming around large tanks but I was distressed to see 2 seals in a tank not much bigger than a spa bath. Nothing in the tank to play with. Swimming around in tight circles. one was obviously blind (see its white eyes in pic). I'll also forever worry about the big octopus in a... More

Visiting Tokyo with kids and with a request to see animals, this place is our selection. Easy access in Tokyo and kids (8 years and 6 years old) enjoyed seeing animals here. Clean and modern place, lots of animals to view, indoor and outdoor. Suggest to visit in the morning to enjoy their activities with animals. The aquarium is part... More

This aquarium features some of the most egregious animal cruelty I've seen. At first everything was okay. A lot of the fish tanks seem pretty standard for aquariums, until my friend pointed out that many of them were pretty barren. Lots of smaller tanks with no kind of plant life, decoration, or places to hide. Do fish care about those... More

It's an aquarium with a show. Great tricks and very friendly atmosphere. A lot of things to do there and in the area.

Very well organised and good layout. See deep sea creatures & fresh water creatures. The sea lion show is interesting. There are feeding times for penguins & pelicans. Reasonably priced entrance fees: Adult Y2000, Children Y1000.

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
