Sea otters, penguins, and loads of sea life!

I was sceptical of an aquarium on the top level of a skyscraper. It's definitely something to behold! Not too big but fine to spend a few hours browsing.

This aquarium was very different from all the other ones we had visited. It is located in sunshine sity, really easy to go to by train and it was much less expensive than th others. Tha architecture is really different and there are some really cool unique spaces to visit. The aquarium shop is also very interesting, with things you... More

It's not a big aquarium but lots of things to see, located on the roof garden of a commercial building, there are different kind of tickets but unfortunately no English explanation about the difference, so I only purchased the basic entrance fee.

I love aquariums, and here they are really cool. Plenty of fish and reptiles, full of colours. Outside there's pelicans, penguins, otters and more. They have a show with a sealion too. Nice little restaurant.

Is not a big aquarium but it is unique. Located at 10th floor of a shopping mall. It has indoor and outdoor. Can find some special creatures.

For me the aqarium looked pretty average and sometimes it seemed that the animals on the outside had not enough room to themselfs. It still has a really beatiful aqarium with a big window inside where the show a feeding show and explain a bit aabout the animals, but only in japanese.

Before our trip to Tokyo I was highly anticipating going to Sunshine Aquarium, as I had seen so many photos of cute little penguins inside a glass enclosure swimming above people's heads, and I thought it looked magical. However, when I arrived in Tokyo I was surprised to see that the aquarium was literally on top of a shopping mall,... More

I took my granddaughter to this small but unique aquarium on the top of a high rise building in the middle of the city. Since I had been to an amazing world class aquarium in Okinawa, I wasn't really prepared to like it. However, it was wonderful. The outside exhibits were very good: a seal show, pelican feeding, big fishes,... More

I love aqauriums - I've been to them all over the planet, but this has to rank among the very best. Not only are the interior exhibits beautiful and laid out very well, the outdoor areas are beautiful, clean, and everything has signs in English (although the shows are in Japanese). We watched a sea lion show and an otter... More

we went here and the aquariums were nice. Very pretty fish and my.kids particulary liked all the frogs. The mammal enclosures were very sad and animals looked very bored. Lots of written info but in Japanese. the names of animals/ fish/etc were in English. presentations also made in Japanese. Had a big aquarium to sit in front of. Nice if... More

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
