Neighborhood: Yotsuya / Iidabashi
Yotsuya and Iidabashi are areas that developed around the outer moat of the Imperial palace. Nearby in Kagurazaka, there is an old red-light district with a photogenic feel evocative of the ambiance of old Tokyo. Narrow paths with stone paving remain to this day, and there are long-standing restaurants with geishas and quaint old cafes in townhouse buildings.

If you have see the animation Your Name, you'd recognize the stairs to this shrine. It's where Taki and Mitsuha meet at the end. If you're a fan, go visit.

I came here solely to find the stairs in the anime movie Your name (Kimi No Na Wa).
Great little place to do some sight seeing and to take some pictures.

You can re-live the last and the most important scene from the Japanese animation film, "Your Name" or "Kiminonawa" here at Suga Shrine. Try to go on a sunny day, as it was the same in the movie. The main characters meet, finally, here at the steep staircase of Suga Shrine.
If you have time, enjoy looking around Yotsuya, as there are many sites and attractions as well as a great selection of restaurants in Yotsuya. Refer to "hiddenjapanguide" for more information, if interested.

I'm actually genuinely surprised how many people come here still in 2019 for the stairs. The film came out 3 years ago now and yet, when I went on a rainy week day morning last week, there were still a solid 7 people there with me. The anime definitely looked a lot better lol. In all seriousness, if you do go to the stairs, I really encourage you to check out the shrine as it serves as a community museum as well.

Definitely a must visit place for fan of Your Name. I watched this movie for 8 times... I dont have much feeling about other places where the main guy works (apparently it's in Tokyo too), but this place represents a new start of their story... I firmly believed that they will be together no matter what happens.

The Suga Shrine was relatively easy to find with the help of Google maps, and it's a quite a distance from the nearby subway stations. I didn't go into the shrine as there was an ongoing event then, and managed to find the famous (but disappointing) stairways in "Your Name" (the animated scene is not accurate). There is another road junction at the base of the stairways which was reflected in the movie too, and fortunately the animated scene was an exact replica of it.

It really has that temple vibe. And there are different colored trees. And the inside is really nice like those you see in Asianovelas. And you can take a picture on the stairs like in some anime

The shrine (or rather the staircase specifically) was made popular by the animated film Your Name as many other reviewers have stated here. The shrine itself was not that impressive, to be honest. Most people are only here to take pictures of the staircase and I do think that it doesn't worth the hassle if you are not familiar with the film.
I was on a Makoto Shinkai themed trip though and had a blast. Bought a bookmark form the shrine as well. There're several locations in the area that fans of the film would recognize including the crossroad a block from the staircase.
