Neighborhood: Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.

During my visit in Japan I wanted to take calligraphy lessons, so I via internet I found this school and by mailing back and forth I scheduled two private calligraphy lessons. I went to Ms Narita in Shinjuku Tokyo. The lessons are at her private home where she has arranged a little room for calligraphy. By following her instructions it was not vert hard to find the place, since it is a little hidden in a normal living district in Tokyo.
I got to learn about the right posture, some basic strokes, and some characters. We spoke in half Japanese and half English, but this was absolutely no problem for taking the class. I really enjoyed the lessons very much. Both teachers were very kind, helpful and very skilled at calligraphy.
Next time I go to Japan, I would like to return and while back home I look forward to taking classes by corresponding.
