Address
Neighborhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

- Isabella SSydney, Australia121 contributionsA must do!A must do while you are in Tokyo! Be sure to book tickets in advanced as it can sell out quickly. Elevator is quick and the staff ensure everyone makes their way up quickly and efficiently. On the top, there a 360degree view of the city, we were blessed with great weather!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 14, 2023
- Sue SKingston, Canada381 contributionsIncredible views of Tokyo! This newish attraction was definitely worth the hype BUT you absolutely have to book in advance- one month to be exact, especially if you want sunset views. Book about 1 to 1.5 hours prior to sunset. You enter at the 14th floor to access the elevator that takes you to the top. Being outdoors with unobstructed 360 views was such a cool experience. It felt like you could touch the planes flying overhead. When an epic rainstorm blew through, we all rushed to the lower indoor observation deck and watched the storm while the neon lights lit up the city. Even if you can't go outdoors , the indoor observation deck was still very impressive and there was a decent gift shop to boot! Definitely worth the hype!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 20, 2023
- pyt_go_girlCanadian Rockies, Canada169 contributionsBest night view in townLoved it. It was a bit hard to find. It was easy enough to follow Google Maps but once you leave the train station some of the signs to the elevator for Sky was confusing. Once you leave the train station, just walk around the escalators and go behind and you should see the line of people waiting for the elevators to the sky. We went in the evening and in my opinion, it's better than going during the day. We took some good pictures and there were a few lines of people to take pictures on the corner locations. There is also a line up to have a staff photographer take your picture in a designated area where the ground is lighted which will light up your face. You can line up and have your picture taken but no obligation to buy any photos. When you're done, go down to the escalators and there is an indoor observatory. Spend some time here. O think this is better option than Tokyo Skytree since there's lots more to do here and you can stay at the Scramble Bldg and have dinner. many dinner options!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023
- vickicorkTampa, Florida429 contributionsVery nice tower in TokyoI chose this one to visit among all the high rises in Tokyo as it was open at the top . Just next to Shibuya station , you have to go at the exact time as your ticket if you book online as I did , we went half hour early and had to wait at Starbucks 3 storeys below . Very nice view of Tokyo from aboveVisited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 2, 2023
- Tracy MAuckland, New Zealand139 contributionsMake a reservation to experience the ViewIf i learnt anything from our trip to Japan, it was to make reservations for everything, and even then, you still have to queue, but it just becomes the nature of doing things in Japan. Even with reservations which I booked a month in advance on their website, and being on time, we still queued which meant we missed the sunset, but still got to experience Shibuya at night. It really is stunning and lots of photo opportunities, but you'd need a quality camera to capture the purity. Once in a lifetime experience!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 15, 2023
- Benny HBrisbane, Australia132 contributionsMagnificent View of the City and the all popular Shibuya CrossingRecommend to visit the place. Make sure you make a booking early and, if possible, book a slot near sunset time. There is a photography service at a popular photo shoot location near the corner of an edge, but note it can form to be a bit of a que. So make sure you are in the que early once up there to avoid a longer wait. The staff won't help you take a photo, but will allow you 30 seconds or so to take your own photos at the spot after he shoots. People (strangers) normally then collaborate between one another to help each other take photos. Once done, the bottom levels; 13 and 12, have restaurants, which also provides a good view outside. However, it will cost you. Alternatively, there is a food court at the lowest level, which is also the subway station and near a convenience store.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 16, 2023
- Lauren MTorrance, California218 contributionsNice viewWe booked tickets in US prior to our trip to Japan. We wanted the private seating with drinks, so we timed and checked to see if the tickets for the day of visit went on the sale. The service was nice and due to the special ticket, they gave us a priority and escorted us to the observatory. Make sure to take 100 yen, so you can use the locker. Fortunately, no rain, but it was cold as we booked the slots after the sunset. Wine and snacks were not extra ordinary by any means, but it was very nice to sit back and enjoy the view.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 25, 2023
- Maya Brent7 contributionsAbsolute must-visit!It's a breathtaking immersion into the heart of the city. Stepping onto the glass floor, suspended hundreds of meters above ground, induced both awe and exhilaration. The panoramic views of Tokyo's skyline were nothing short of mesmerizing, especially as the city lights started to twinkle after sunset. The futuristic design of the observatory, coupled with the cozy cafe, made it a perfect spot to soak in the beauty of Tokyo from above. It's not just a viewpoint; it's a thrilling experience that captures the essence of this vibrant metropolis.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 9, 2024

Bags and tripods are not allowed on the rooftop but they have lockers. It is strictly prohibited for safety reason. Lots of great place to take pictures. Gallery and cafe are both available for use. The elevator to the rooftop is amazing with light show on the ceiling on the way up.. and it is fast 🛗💨 all floors are clean. Overall, amazing experience especially while at the rooftop. Just a reminder, be cautious if you are afraid of heights 😁Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 27, 2024

Admission tickets (Klook Special Promotion @ JPY 1,800/adult) for specific time slots can easily be purchased online in advance; the ones around sunset hours are usually sold-out first. Remember to wear a windbreaker, as it gets quite windy in the rooftop. Travel light, because visitors are only allowed to bring their phones and wallets up to the observation deck; everything else must be kept in the lockers (JPY 100/locker). Enjoy the view and take lots of photos! The souvenir shop has a good collection of gifts including Hachiko related goodies. However, the Paradise Lounge which serves snacks and cocktails is not always open. Please note that selected shops at the Shibuya Scramble Square hand out small gifts and sometimes discounts upon presentation of the Shibuya Sky tickets.Visited April 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 5, 2024

The Magnet building used to offer better views than this one. However, the views are also nice and enjoyable.
The only problem is that crítica information in English is non-existent, and attendant give you instructions in Japanese (which I understand cause I speak it but no one would if they couldn't speak it).
The place was overcrowded, which meant we had to queue for about 25 minutes just to get out! There are two elevators to go up and down, and the ticket is on the pricey side considering the hassle it is.
If you want to score a nice picture of the scramble crossing, the best location is from inside the building on the "first floor" of the observation deck. You will end up walking past when you try to exit the area, as the line is huge.
Beware that lockers require a ¥100 coin to operate; this information is in English but posted where no one can actually see it.
If you want stunning views of Tokyo in general, go to the World Trade Center building near Hamamatsucho (due to be demolished in 2020).

Spacious observatory space and a nice roof bar are excellent for soaking in the expansive view of Tokyo city. Entry to Shibuya Sky is scheduled every 20-minute block. I highly recommend checking the sunset timing and matching the entry just before the sunset, so you get to capture the sun setting over the city and then awe at the night lights of the city.

Shibuya Sky is a place that I think only became popular on social media during the pandemic and so it was a natural place to put on our itinerary when we came to visit Tokyo. It is 230 meters tall located in Shibuya and offers spectacular 360 degree views of Tokyo and its surrounds. Unfortunately it was cloudy with some light drizzle so I missed out on looking at the landmark I was most looking forward to see which was Mount Fuji.
Immediately below the outdoor observation deck is an indoor observation deck. This indoor observation deck as a bar but you have to pre-book tickets to be able to sit there as well as a souvenir shop. There is an abstract exhibit thing about the flow of time which you can touch but somehow I don't really get it. There is also a place to park baby strollers and locker rooms to put your items in.
The reviews making mention of booking tickets ahead of time are very true. When we arrived to show our prebooked tickets, there were a group who had just shown up without pre-booking tickets and was told that the non-prebooked tickets had run out and this was 2.30 in the afternoon.
And while the weather is not the responsibility of Shibuya Sky, I would suggest trying to come here on a sunny day.

Got to Shibuya Station and queued in a long line waiting under strong sun to take the lift to the Shibuya Sky excitedly. After checked in at 14 floor, we took another lift to 47th-48th floor. The outdoor observation was smaller than imagined with security guards in every corners, that made us feel uncomfortably. Worse than that, all the visitors were required to use the observation deck operator's photographer and pay a fee of JPY1,500 pp for a photo at the hottest photo spot. Staff could neither speak English nor answer any question. Very disappointed! Would recommend the Skytree (for a fee) or the Tokyo Metropolitan Building for a better view and better experience!

Entrance is on the ground floor of Shibuya Scramble Square mall and you just need to present your qr code at the entrance if tickets were purchased in advance. Indoor gallery is good as a rainy day activity and can even see Mount Fuji on a clear day. Upper outdoor gallery can get crowded at sundown and prime corners for photo taking will have a queue forming.

I decided to go up so I could get my bearings and also look down on the scramble crossing.
Was it really worth 2k yen?, (that’s about £15 in sterling), no is the answer.
The views are good, but I suppose tall buildings cost a lot to make and you have to get the money back somehow.
It was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Also would help to have a 100 coin, as lockers at top for bags, as you can’t take them outside.

The Shibuya Sky building is located in the heart of the famous Shibuya district and overlooks the even more famous Shibuya pedestrian walkway. The entrance to the observatory is on the ground floor and you have to take a lift dedicated to it.
We strongly advise you to book your time slot well in advance on the Internet, whether during the day or in the evening (especially for sunset) because we went there on a Monday at 12 noon and there was no room for the same day.
Once the elevator is taken to the top, it is mandatory to deposit in lockers caps, hats, umbrellas, backpacks, etc. If you do not have change to pay for the locker, they will take your belongings in some kind of locker.
Once business is settled, we access the outside via an escalator from where you overlook the city. Everything is ultra clean, windows are cleaned regularly, security guards ensure that instructions are followed. It is possible to take pictures in the corners, after queuing (of course!). From above you have a 360° view of Tokyo, the surrounding area, Mount Fuji on a clear day, etc.
You can stay there for as long as you want and the one-way route allows you to enjoy the place, without being too close to each other. Benches, chairs, rest areas are arranged all over the top. Once down the other escalator, drinks can be enjoyed in the café and the glass gallery that surrounds the building gives other equally interesting views of the city.
The staff is friendly, smiling and welcoming. Unstragrammable photos in perspective.

The latest sightseeing spot in Tokyo. You have to book tix a lot in advance if you wanna see day lights till sunset. I could only book tix for 6:15pm coz all the tix between 3:30 to 6pm were booked. Expected a lot of people there but everything was organized. No pushing nor long waiting to get up. (You do need to wait to take pix at the popular corners.) The glass wall and platform was kinda cool. I ended up spending 2 hours just to check every angle of Tokyo.

We've booked tickets for 4 pax but the traveler name came out the same on all 4 tickets for all 4 QR codes. Is that an issue of the accompanying members can just be admitted based on QR and not their names?

Hi! I’m booking for December 22 for my upcoming family trip which includes 2 children ages 6yo and 3yo. Website says children’s tickets have to be bought at the ticket office in Shibuya Sky and not online (unlike Adult tickets). I am worried that the tickets for kids on the day might get sold out. Can I just buy adult tickets for all including the children so their slots are secured? I am aware of the price differences and it is okay. Thank you in advance!
Written November 25, 2024
The website says:
※Even if other tickets are sold out, tickets for Elementary School Students and Young Children (ages 3-5) will be available for purchase at the ticket counter on the day of your visit.
※Since tickets for Adults and Junior High & High School Students cannot be purchased on site for sold-out time slots, we recommend purchasing tickets online in advance.
It also says adults tickets can’t be canceled. 20% fee will be charged. Sounds like you need to purchase for kids over 5 just in case they sell out.

I want to book the observation deck and noticed on the official website that there are three ways to book; Trip , KKday and Klook. Which is the best to use and which would give me the best chance of getting a sunset ticket?
Written October 1, 2024
We'll be in Tokyo 11-13 October, I was hoping we could just turn up on whatever day seemed convenient and had clear weather and buy tickets on the day, we're not concerned about sunset times, just any time during the day. Can anyone say whether this is possible or is it essential to book on line beforehand? If it was misty/cloudy there wouldn't be any point anyway so to pay ahead seems like it may be a waste of money. Also are there any alternative viewing points of the crossing that don't require booking... thanks
