The area

Address
Neighborhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

    Organized Chaos; Don't Miss It
Shibuya scramble square is unique and fun to be a part of. A large intersection that, when all of the stop lights turn red, the intersection becomes a mass chaos of people. During the busy times of the day, thousands of people cross the intersection in every direction at the same time. It is amazing to watch. One minute the intersection is full of cars, the next minute the intersection is full of people walking every which of a way in the intersection.

Interesting to see and participate in
If you are an introvert, be prepared for the overwhelming feeling of claustrophobia. I didn’t get tickets to this from Shibuya sky, and they were sold out, so I walked the scramble till I got to Starbucks. You can get a pretty good view from there, if you can get to the window. Fortunately, anybody videoing it is not going to stand for long, and then you can scoot in, video it, and then scoot out. Even though you were supposed to walk completely straight, a lot of people were also walking across, which stopped the natural flow of progression. This was a really interesting experience and then afterwards, if you’re not feeling suffocated, you can certainly enjoy all that the area has to offer. Oh, and the building that Starbucks is in has eight floors and several of them have books, CDs, and DVDs.

    Organized Chaos!
It’s a sight to behold (and take part in). We went at absolute peak time… 6.30pm Friday. Around 2,500 people crossing the road at multiple angles, every 60 seconds. You have to see it to believe it. Bags of shopping and restaurants nearby.

    Recommended shopping spots in Shibuya
This is a large commercial facility directly connected to Shibuya Station. There are many shopping spots, as well as dining and cafes. There is an observation facility called Shibuya Sky on the rooftop, which is recommended because you can get a panoramic view of Shibuya.

A must see from above! And at street level
Definitely something to experience at street level and then witness from above. Crazy number of people crossing from multiple directions at once…. Organized chaos. Everyone’s so polite it just works. We paid 1500 yen each to take an elevator up to a glasses in patio to witness the chaos from above. It included your choice of alcohol beverage or tea etc. was well worth it to sit and watch from above. You probably will get to see some fancy sports cars go by and also folks riding the Mario cart go karts.

Shibuya Scramble Square is a tall mixed use building on top of which the Shibuya Sky is located though I am primarily concerned with the 14-storey shopping center in this building. I think it's another of one of those shopping centers that seem to have everything though what is in offer is oriented towards a high-end. There is a two-storey food court at the top two floors of the shopping center. Book lovers will be disappointed that though there is a Kinokuniya at the bottom floor of the shopping center, this Kinokuniya is a supermarket rather than the book store chain.

My tip when coming here is that it is a lot faster to use escalators to go between floors instead of elevators. The elevators take a LOOONG time to arrive. So much so that though normally very orderly and patient when lining up, I have seen locals here being tempted enough to sneak into the priority elevator (reserved for handicapped and/or those travelling with children).

This was exactly as read online. Glorious chaos of people going everywhere in the thousands. Really worth the experience to just see this and then while In Shibuya go eat pancakes at flippers and pat the hedgehogs at the cafe!

Absolutely LOOOOVE this place. The view is spectacular! Spent 2k yen on this attraction and I gotta say.. it was money well spent. Definitely a MUST DO while in Tokyo. Best part of our trip here was that the facility wasn’t as full as anticipated. Managed to get great shots!

Another high rise building, busy and chaotic but it has a cool atmosphere. Offices, shops, loads of eateries, an observation deck and more. Connected to Shibuya station. The eateries are good but be prepared to wait at peak times. Elevators take ages and stop nearly at each floor! Might be easier to use the escalators. Clean. Staff are friendly and pleasant.
