The area

Address
Neighborhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

For 400 yen you can spend a very enjoyable 15 minutes in a photo booth, taking photos then digitally enhancing them, adding slogans and graphics. Then you get a postcard sized print out to take away with you. The machines are easy to use and the results are hilarious.

This was a fun little experience in Tokyo. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and enjoyed stopping in to take some fun pictures. Lots of booth options and pretty cheap for a cute souvenir!

You may think doing something as simple as a photobooth is silly, BUT this is not your normal photobooth. First, the whole idea of this location is almost like a photobooth mall. It’s lined with different booths that offer different filters and do different things.

The whole experience overall is confusing and so extra but SO fun so if you have a sense of humor I think you’ll enjoy it.

I thought it was so worth the $100 yen for a really really good laugh.

First of all, the person in charge was rude: he did not answer our questions about the cabin, and later he shouted to us.
In the other hand, while we were inside the cabin taking photos, someone stealed our gift bags.
When we asked the person in charge he totally ignored us.
It all was very disgusting.

If you're travelling to Tokyo you have to go in a Photo Booth!! We were very confused by the process and nobody in there was willing to explain it to us but being curious and pressing all the buttons was part of the fun. We made our very own face stickers very cheaply and had a ball.

Machines are 400 yens. There doesn't seem to be a way to avoid them colouring your lips and rounding your eyes (hope there was, specially for men and boys since we took family pictures). Beware when you choose your layout to choose one where at least one picture is as big as possible since all pictures are printed together in one tiny kind of postcard so you can't see anything if you choose to have all pictures the same size. It's a fun experience in any case. There is no way to get the picture by email (it would only be one of them) if you don't register and subscribe (I think it implies an annual charge so we didn't dare).

How on earth can Lonely Planet highlight this as something for tourists to do? I understand it being pointed out as a cultural phenomenon, but it is truly inane, and a borderline scam as they seek email and subscription from you.

Avoid.

This was an odd experience. It's a room full of photo booths. You need to pay (roughly 400 yen) then choose backgrounds, then take pictures, then decorate your pictures. You're given a limited amount of time for each step. The guy running the place didn't speak English or really try to be helpful at all but the teen/early 20s girls who were using the booths were very sweet and helped me through the process. There's loud music playing and mirrors to check your look before you head in. The machine prints out a collage of your pics and also emails you a digital copy. This was fun and I definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

My boyfriend and I spend almost an hour in the small photo booth creating funny pictures. Would recommend anyone in Shibuya to stop by and make a really peculiar souvenir. Also, the price was about 400 Yen - so really cheap.

It is one of those places that leave you surprised in Japan.
First you have like an area with mirrors so you can get ready.
Then you go to a photo goon who takes 8 photos of you.
Then you go to an editor where you work on the photos, you can tone the color of your skin, put on more angular features, put on makeup and also put messages on the photos, put on rabbit ears or cat whiskers... You can entertain yourself as much as you want. .
We found it very fun, although we didn't understand many of the tools too much.
The worst thing is that you only have two of the printed photos and, not knowing it, we chose the two worst ones.
In any case, it's fun to see how people behave.
It is recommended to spend some time.
