Address
Neighborhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

- PaytonNew York City, New York2 contributionsSuper cute and comfortable experienceI went into this a little hesitant. I didn't really like the idea of an animal cafe because I doubted the animals wanted to be there but I was surprised. The staff was great and the animal's care was put in front of the human wants for cuteness which made me feel better about the whole thing. We spent most of the time just drinking our drinks and looking at them but some people around us were complaining that they weren't doing much. I don't know what people expected they are hedgehogs? I would recommend but I probably wouldn't go back because I still feel uneasy about the whole animal cafe thing but if I reframe it was a way for humans to better get to know animals on their own terms I think it's ok.Visited January 2020Written January 12, 2020
- FloLyTeamSaint-Priest, France542 contributionsGreat atmosphere and serviceGreat atmosphere and service. When we arrived, there were two families before us, but we didn't have to wait for more than 10-15 minutes. We paid to see only the hedgehogs and they were adorable and very easy to interact with and kept falling asleep in our hands. Getting a drink is very easy - all you have to do is get one from the vending machine. Overall, we are very happy with this pet cafe, especially in comparison to those with dogs.Visited May 2023Written June 1, 2023
- foodlovergirlnyNew York City, New York4,882 contributionsPlease be kind and considerateIt is located on the fourth floor, and you need to take the elevator to get there. Once you get out of the tiny elevator, the space opens up in front of you. You are greeted by friendly staffs, and walk you through their prices, rules and regulations. The price is based on the time, with an option to add treats for hedgehogs. The fee is per person, so more people you have with you, the pricier it will become. We were taken to a seat by the container that had four hedgehogs. We were pretty lucky, since we visited Hedgehog Cafe Harry during a weekday, and off peak, so it was not busy. Another thing that comes with the fee is one drink per person. They have two vending machines, and you get to choose one drink. The paper cup that it comes with were pretty small, so don’t expect much… The hedgehogs are SOOOOOOO adorable!!! You are given a pair of thick gloves, in case they get feisty and bite you. We had that issue with one of the hedgehogs. He was not in a mood to play, just wanted to sleep. Hey, I get it, they have to be picked up and played with all day with strangers, they need some rest every once in a while… But other three were playful and it was so fun holding them and looking at them. Who knew Hedgehog Cafe could be so fun? The treats for hedgehogs came in a tiny little container, and it looked like dried worms? They seemed to like it a lot, but feeding them was not as exciting as holding them. Another animal they had was Meerkat! Another animal we have never seen in real life! We got to pet this cute little thing a bit too. If hedgehog is not your thing, you can opt for hamsters instead as well. They were certainly playful and cute. This was such a unique experience, and very memorable. The hedgehogs were adorable, and I thank them for their patience to play with us silly humans. Please be mindful of these little hedgehogs, be kind and considerate.Visited January 2023Written July 6, 2023

I would like to complain about awful customer service. My wife and daughter were playing with the hedgehogs while i waited. And then the staff threw me out saying i could not wait inside despite the fact that the store was almost empty and I was off in the corner looking at my phone. I do not know what kind of business throws out families of customers into the pouring rain. But this was incredibly rude. There is no honor in this business to throw out family members. I am very very disappointed

Having seen the Hedgehog experience all across social media, that was something we could not miss on our trip through Japan. Upon entering, we saw the hedgehogs (who are truly well cared for) and got to play for 30 minutes with them. It is quite scary at the beginning but a really cute and exciting experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and helped us when we got. a bit too scared to pick them up. Overall, definitely worth the visit - no matter the age!

We had a great experience at the Hedgehog Cafe! It wasn't too busy when we were there so we were about to move around a lot and see many of the hedgehogs. They looked well taken care of and were just hanging out! They had many options for the drink that is included with your admission and the half hour option is, in my opinion, plenty of time to enjoy the hedgehogs before moving to your next adventure in Harajuku.

My partner and I visited Harry a few months ago, it was actually our second time, but this time around we decided to also visit the bunny cafe downstairs.
It was then where we discovered the business had also acquired chinchillas and meerkats. Immediately the thought of a captive meerkat felt strange and off (but shouldn't the thought of most captive animals? Double standards right.) But being on our holiday high, we decided to shift focus onto the fact that we were in the presence of adorable chinchillas.
We were then informed that the chinchillas were sleeping so the assistant recommended the meerkat. We were hesitant at first but as we looked over, it was pacing back and forth in its 50x50x80cm enclosure and appeared frantic to get out. "At least it's better than the box."
I don't know a lot about Meerkats but as the lady placed it on our laps and struggled to keep it on us, (all it was interested in was running off) I couldn't help but think back to documentaries that showed they are very intelligent and highly social animals.
I asked whether it had a friend and the lady responded by saying She was it's best friend. I opened youtube on my phone and played a video titled "meerkat social sounds". The meerkat went crazy and tried digging and peering behind my phone as though to look for others. I don't know if I should have done that but to this day the memory of it wrenches me on the inside. I still remember the sounds it made. Unlike the videos online, but more frustrated and repetitive.
Back in the shop, The mental image of it pacing back and forth in its perspex box resurfaced. "Do you think it would benefit from having a friend?" I asked. "Visitors love him" she replied, and that was it.
After we left, I realised It wasn't her fault, and as an employee, what else could she have said?
Of course, in our world, there are many worse fates that befall captive animals, but the experience at HARRY did trigger an uneasy realisation.
We have since also learned that the business has acquired otters. I've read there is currently a huge poaching and smuggling problem in South East Asia and more than half the otters intercepted by authorities are headed for Japan. When exotic animals reach Japan, the absence of laws means their welfare is entirely at the discretion of individual businesses.
My Partner and I run a Japanese themed T-shirt company and we have since even dropped our design which referenced animal cafes.
I wish to encourage anyone who reads this to do further research as we did. And if you do decide to visit Harry, please ask them to at least house their meerkats in the same store.
Thank you.

Thank you for visiting our cafe twice.
You may know this already, but the animals at our cafes are all up for adoption.
You are correct in saying that meerkats like to be social and be in groups, however this is mostly just for meerkats in the wild. Sabu (the meerkat at our cafe) is actually a pet meerkat, and has never lived in the wild. He is still very social with the customers and staff!
Our staff do our best to keep him happy and treat him as well as we can, so we hope we haven't worried you too much!
As for your comment about the otters, I can't speak for any other businesses, but I can assure you that the otters at our cafe were bred in Japan. We also treat them with care and make sure they are healthy and happy.
We thank you for your concern, but there is nothing to worry about! We love and care for all of our animals and just want the customers to adore them as much as we do.

They have river otters. Piled in a tiny baby cage, for your enjoyment.
I didn't know they exploited wildlife--hedgehogs and rabbits are domesticated, otters are wild animals--in this itty-bitty kennel hoping you pay extra to feed.
The otters are frantic and piled on top of each other because they have no space and nothing to do UNLESS you pay into that extra fee to feed them. So they're miserable until you pay extra, and there only for more money.
I realize animal welfare laws are more relaxed here than the States, but this just left me feeling sick. Would not
I was looking forward to the hedgehogs, but after a few minutes realized they REALLY are not social daytime animals, and I was probably pissing them off.

SHOULD HAVE READ REVIEWS
We stumbled upon this Hedgehog Cafe in the Harajuku area and thought it would be a fun idea since these kinds of theme/animal cafes are popular. We went without reading the web site or checking reviews, which I wish we'd done on retrospect. Bottom line: After being in the cafe about 10 minutes, we wished we hadn't done it. Read on for our experience...
EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET
The cafe is on the 4th floor, so there is an attendant with the cafe on the street level. She told us to stand behind a roped off area on the sidewalk. We waited a short while and were then ushered into a small elevator with a few other cafe guests. When the elevator opens, you're at the entrance to the cafe, where you pay at a counter. It was approx USD$25 for two people for up to 30 minutes with the hedgehogs -- a little expensive for what you get.
SELF SERVE VENDING MACHINE FOR DRINKS
You are assigned a hedgehog 'trough' where there are 2 hedgehogs and a pair of gloves each. The 'cafe' part consists of 2 vending machines at the back of the room. One of us took time away from the hedgehogs to get 2 drinks in a paper cup. The first vending machine malfunctioned. I suppose I was expecting waitress service and a nice drink in a china mug. Nope.
HEDGEHOGS WERE TIRED
Back to the hedgehogs. Being late in the afternoon, they both seemed rather sleepy and any time we tried to pick them up in our gloved hands, they squirmed and wanted to get back in their trough. They did not seem happy campers. I soon realized that this was not that fun of an experience and that it was really rather cruel.
30 MINS IS MORE THAN ENGOUH TIME
The cafe was packed with visitors and I wandered around looking at everyone else's hedgehogs and at the few souvenirs on offer at the counter. To be honest, after 10 minutes of trying to interact with 2 sleepy hedgehogs, taking photos and a vending-machine drink, I was kind of over it.
GO-TO PLACE TO BUY A HEDGEHOG
Besides visiting with hedgehogs, you can also buy hedgehogs and supplies at the cafe.
As we left, some other tourists were just entering the cafe, trying to decide whether to participate or not. I told them to skip it.

I visited this afternoon which was very cold. The otter is housed at the external area and was left unattended.
One of the otter has injury in his leg and cannot stand properly. When he stand like a humans , his upper hand was shaking as he can only stand on one feet and I guess he was so tired that his 2 upper hands was shacking non-stop.
Also one of the otter is being rude to him. Whenever visitor feeding the otter, this rude otter tried to bite the injured otter.
Since the otter is left unattended during visitor feeding them, some visitor try to pull the food away from the otters when the otter though they are being fed. The injured otter was so poor that he tried all his best to stand up so as to get fed, and you can tell that his leg was so hurt that his hand was shackling when getting your food.
And visitor is not being taught how to fed the otter, what happen is that there was a strong completion between otters. And a strong otter bite the injured otter in order to get fed. I was so sad in seeing this sense.
This is totally a torture to the otter. The injuries otter should be taken care by vet and should be resting in another shelter. This is totally inhuman.
Had visited similar cafe with owl. The staff has pay every attention to the owl and they were taken care properly. Obviously for this Harry cafe, they are trying to get money and scarify the otters.
Totally not recommend to promoting this kind of wrong attitudes toward animal by visiting them. I’m so regret I visit them
and this kind of cafe should be abounded.

Thank you for visiting our shop.
Here at HARRY, we put our animal's health and safety first.
Otters are generally very playful animals and can tend to "shake" their arms when they play.
This does not show that they are injured, and rather just want to play with the customers or with each other.
We hope you come again and we can inform you more on otters so that you have a more enjoyable experience.

My special needs brother Luke and I went to this hedgehog cafe a few days ago and experienced something quite shocking. As he went to hold up the hedgehog so I could get a nice photo, he surprised me by kissing it. Well, the little critter didn't like that! He snapped and took a chunk out of Luke's lip. As he doesn't understand much, and is easily startled, Luke was quite shaken and we had to return back to the hotel so we could patch up his lip, calm him down, and FaceTime his mum back in Australia. A fun place, but those cute little 'hogs pack a punch. Be careful when kissing them! Please see attached photo.

Seems a nice warm place, but actually the managers make the costumers do everything they want with the animals, even throwing them :(
Once I saw it with my eyes and no one did nothing.
Nice idea but more control and animal love please!!

The two Hedgehog Harry’s we visited both had stairs and steps, plus narrow aisles, so not very accessible for wheelchairs; maybe ok for braces/crutches.
Does it require a reservation to get in?
If no reservation, are the queues usually long? What's the average waiting time to get in?

Sorry for the late reply. I believe a booking is best. Sometimes the que goes all the way down the stairwell. If you book it’s better. We just turned up when we went and were very lucky they could fit us in. We still had a small wait prior. So if would book. You can plan your time around this fun activity.
