Stringraphy diverges from the conventional musical performance as it utilises instruments from our daily life. Studio Eve specifically hosted a show for my family as we emailed to inquire before the trip. The performance was inspiring and the performers were very passionate. My family had a chance to try playing the instrument and even collaborate playing a complete song. The place was very warm and the musicians were very welcoming. We were invited to move around freely as the sounds may vary depending on the side of the room we were sitting. Also, Kazue-san kindly explained the details behind how stringraphy works, the factors which affects the timbre, sound and pitch. The facts were mind-blowing and it was a truly remarkable experience.

My partner and I visited Tokyo for a second time and were disappointed to see that again, there would be no performances of Stringraphy during our stay. Luckily for us the ever considerate Midori and Kazue offered to put on an open rehearsal for us! It was a cute little side adventure to get to the Studio EVE building and once there we were treated very warmly to an entertaining performance. All three musicians were not just talented on the silk instrument, but also great performers that made the show not just a feast for the ears but also the eyes. And we even got to try out playing the instrument and thereby truly appreciate the skill that goes in to it. If you are in Tokyo, do make sure to shoot these lovely people an email and see if you can sit in on an open rehearsal or if your even luckier, see them live in concert. It is an experience you won’t forget!

This was our last activity after almost a month in Tokyo and was easily one of our favorite experiences. The day we ended up going was actually unexpectedly snowy and miserable, but the studio was easy for us to get to via the train and a short walk from the station. We signed up for the family concert even though I knew it would be a little bit young for my kids (ages 16, 11 and 8) but it was the only day that worked for us in our schedule and we were not disappointed. The strings are so interesting and it was fascinating to watch the musicians play them. We heard a variety of songs, some classical, some nursery rhyme/folk music types and they were all equally spellbinding. If you have any interest in science, music, performance theater, or just seeing something new and different, you will absolutely not be disappointed in visiting Studio Eve!!

We stumbled upon the overwhelmingly positive Stringraphy Reviews here on Trip Advisor on a rainy day, when Studio Eve happened to be hosting a show for families. We took our two daughters ages 6 and 8 to the show, and many families including infants were in the audience. The performance was truly indescribable and awe-inspiring. When the performers started to play the music it did not seem real! I thought it was a recording, but as the show progressed and I started to be able to wrap my head around it, I realized, yes it was real, not a recording. I have never been to a concerted where I was seated in the middle of the musical instrument, but this in fact is what you will find as the Stringraphy instrument fills the entire room. You will be delighted and amazed by the music, artistry and sheer ingenuity of an instrument that sometimes feel like an entire orchestra, that is made of silk strings and paper cups. Such humble materials into beautiful music. What could be more inspiring? I would recommend this experience for anyone who wants a unique performance experience in Tokyo. Even if you don't speak Japanese you will appreciate this and usually the performers provide some English translations to those in the audience who don't speak Japanese. I hope you get the chance to enjoy this very special performance!
