This is basically the place where you pick up your JR Pass if you have already ordered it prior to your departure. We queued for a good 60-90 mins before we were able to get our JR Passes. Perhaps because it was the airport, the staff there was more fluent in English and had more information to offer, even helping to book a seat on our Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka.
Immediately next to this travel service center is the entrance to the Tokyo Monorail.

Waited 30 minutes in the queue and still waiting. Twice I had to get my JR pass here and both times were incredibly slow. Despite the long queue they do nothing to speed up the process and this delays everyone's travel plans. Really needs improvement.

The centre opens at 645am. So when my flight arrived around 5, thought I would be first in queue. Of course, I was wrong. There were many people already in the queue and took me around 8 to get the pass. The staff were polite and efficient. You are able to pay cash, credit card or unionpay there. I would advise when one of your companions get his or her luggage to go to the queue straight away instead of waiting for the whole group.

There was a line of people when I arrived but these were attended to as quickly as possible. This five(5) day trip was my first visit to Tokyo, and I relied completely on the advice and suggestions of the Consultants for places to visit and the most beneficial travel pass to use. The staff couldn't have been more helpful ensuring a variety of significant/interesting places to visit. These included the wonderful Railway Museum very close to Omiya Station, the Heritage listed Temples at Nikko and the great Buddha at Kamakura. Many thanks for all your help.

I ordered my JR Pass and picked up the voucher before heading to Tokyo. I thought it would be a simple swap to get my voucher, but I was so wrong. I got in line at 6:45, only to see it wrapped around the wall back to another area. It took me about 2 and a half hours to get through the line. Apparently this is the busiest travel service center in Tokyo, but they haven’t added more counters or made it more convenient to pick up a pass. I would avoid this if you can, but many of us need the pass ASAP when arriving, so it’s hard to bypass!

The Train system is a masterpiece with stops just about any destination you could imagine. It is very easy to pull up maps on the free wifi in the stations that will show your exact route and details so you can navigate yourself.

The JR East pass covers all rail travel including the Shinkansen (bullet trains). Tickets for the Shinkansen need to be booked (allocated seating) but this can be done up to ten minutes before the departure time. The customer service at the airport was excellent (I booked the pass online before travelling). The station staff were all friendly and helpful, mostly they just wave you through (the passes don't work in the automatic ticket gates). The bullet trains are super fast and comfortable.

Can I buy individual tickets for the Tokyo to Kyoto train here (not with the JR pass)? Wasn't sure if it being JR EASTmeant that I could only purchase tickets for the Eastern section. Thanks
