This is a Ground Self-Defense Force public relations facility adjacent to the Asaka Garrison in the city center. It is a 25-minute walk from Wakoshi Station on the Tobu Tojo Line. There is no other means of transportation than taxis, so you have to rely on walking. The facility is located on the large grounds of the Asaka Garrison, and there is a parking lot. A Type 96 wheeled vehicle will greet you when you arrive. Admission is free. You will be given a form to write your name and gender in the lobby, but otherwise it is a normal museum. It is more compact than the Maritime Self-Defense Force Public Relations Center. The exhibits of combat helicopters and 8-wheeled combat vehicles (16MC) stand out. They explain the missions and roles of the Ground Self-Defense Force. It seems like it would be fun for people interested in military things. For enthusiasts, it may feel a bit unsatisfying, but maybe it's just a place to go for a conversation. The outdoor exhibits seem to be more valuable than the indoor exhibits, and combat vehicles from the Cold War to the present are preserved in static form. It's been a while since I saw a Type 74 tank. At the back of the outdoor exhibits, an amphibious vehicle AAV-7 is preserved. There is a rest area with tables and chairs outdoors. There are toilets inside. Next to the lobby is a shop with a lot of goods related to the Self-Defense Forces.

This was not an easy place to find. While the address says Nerima (and there is a Nerima Station) you may be confused as there is a JGSDF base in Nerima but NOT the site of this museum. I'm sure the sentry at the front of the base was a little puzzled when I asked him for directions to the exhibit. You actually need to go to the Wakoshi stop and walk about 15 minutes or so. When you get out of the station, look for the map of the area and you will have a rough idea where it is. The museum is on a base which is located across from a gas station and McDonalds. Admission is free. You don't need to check in with the sentries that are directing traffic - you can just walk straight to the museum which will be on the right with some parking spaces in front. The subway line I took was the Tobu line, exit Wakoshi.

The place shows real tanks and helicopters used by the Japanese ground defense force. And sometimes you may see helicopters flying by this center. Though it is quite far away from the nearest train station, it didn't disappoint me as a military fan. One important thing is to check the entry of the center on your map, or you will have to waste lot of time finding it.

The Eastern Army is based in the very North of Nerima. I want to make clear that this isn`t intended as a touristic attraction. The aim of this PR center is more into getting new recruits.
However, this shouldn`t be the problem. The center has no direct connection to public transportation. I have decided to walk the full way between the camp. I was impressed how much military you can squeeze into the world biggest metropolitan region. However, there is also driving a bus toward the end of the camp. From there you will still need to take a little walk in order to reach the PR center.
So, what is what you will see? You will see bombs, military arms, tanks and much more. The selection is small but great to see a little bit of everything and the best is that you can try several stuff.
You can wear backpacks or bulletproof vests to get a sense for weight, you can use a flying simulator which actually moves and much more.
You will also have some propaganda videos which are also interesting to watch.
If you don`t mind the walk you can get a free attraction which is a little unusual but lots of fun.
