境妙寺は元々は日蓮宗のお寺として麹町に創建され、1629年に千駄ヶ谷へ移転しました。1698年に天台宗に改宗し、1915年（大正4年）当地へ移転したといいます。散りかけた桜の花びらの絨毯が印象的でした。

宝泉寺の隣の道をまっすぐ行くとこのお寺にあたります。近くは墓地がたくさんありました。見た目は普通の家みたいな印象ですが、ちゃんとしたお寺でした。

上高田一帯にある寺院の中の一つです。元は日蓮宗だったのが元禄時代に天台宗に改宗しています。本尊は阿弥陀如来三尊です。徳川家ともゆかりのあるお寺です。

上高田4丁目周辺の寺町の一角にあります。上高田１丁目にも寺院が多く何故高田地区には寺院が集中しているのか。中野区の寺院概況資料によると、明治時代以降に旧御府内（現新宿区、現台東区等）より移転してきた寺院・明治時代以降に当地に創建した寺院が過半数を占めています。ということだけが分かるのですが。境妙寺本堂の瓦には葵の紋があり､徳川家ゆかりの寺などに見られる黒門が存在しています。

元和年間（1615-1624）麹町地獄谷に創建、その後こちらに移転してきた。お寺が並ぶエリアの細い路地を入った処に山門があり、その奥に本堂がひっそりと立っている。境内は木々が並び綺麗に維持されている。平日午後、静かであった。

中野区の上高田にある天台宗の寺院で、高耀山惠雄院と号します。年代物の立派な山門があり、境内は良く整備されており、気持ちがひきしまります。
