If you've been to a famous 'sakura-hanami' (cherry blossom viewing) spot in Japan, you can't help wondering if there are more people than sakura trees...or flowers for that matter! But I suppose the crowds, blue sheets on the grounds, beer, shutterbugs and food stalls are all a part of 'hanami fun' too. But this year, I was looking for a place that had enough 'hanami' spirit, but with less intimidating crowds, and luckily came across ‘Tatsumi-no-Mori Ryokudo Park’ between Shin-kiba and Tatsumi stations on Yurakucho Line. The park has a pleasant walking course with cherry trees lined on both the sides. When we went for Hanami, there were a good number of hanami-visitors, but it was not so crowded, so we could take our time appreciating the blossoms and take pictures without getting in somebody’s way. Hanami spots are never complete without some food & game stalls, and Tatsumi park was no exception. There were the usual yakisoba (fried noodles), okonomi-yaki (a type of Japanese pancake/pizza), beer & beverages... and a bunch of other stalls. The park had quite a few families with young kids, and their picnic tents…probably because Tatsumi / Shin-kiba are mainly residential areas. On the whole, a great place to enjoy hanami!
