This paper store is a fun place to shop for its artistic papers of every design, color and texture. Gift items are available in all price ranges. If you have the time, pay the small fee to make Washi paper. It is not as easy as it looks. No wonder the paper can be so expensive. The instructor has limited English, but he makes his instructions clear and fun.

I have an interest in Japanese paper and whilst visiting Japan I decided to take the train into the city to visit this Washi paper museum and shop. I spoke to 2 American women who had just done a brief course on how to make this Japanese paper called Washi. They said it was fantastic and showed me what they had maid. I watched the historical film on the history of the paper , and walked around at all the fantastic examples of both paper and Japanese Calligraphy. In the shop I bought several pieces of paper and at the till the assistant reminded me that for international visitors you can get a large part of the tax back so if visiting please remember to take your passports. The staff are very friendly offering me water etc only a bit of English spoken but they really make an effort to make the experience great for everyone . I used JR shin-nihonbashi station to get there and it’s a 5 minute walk to the museum .

If you love washi paper, this is the place to go. Huge selection and friendly staff. Some interesting textures I had never seen before, and good prices. I could have spent all day here!

If you are interested in how the development of the paper, especially the traditional Japanese paper, is used for various purposes, this is the place. This place is a store of paper that has been exist since the year 1653. Many interesting things can be found here, ranging from history, technological developments, galleries, as well as specific courses classes associated with the use of traditional paper.

We enjoyed our class in your exquisite shop. The only suggestion would be to consider an English language option so that non-Japanese speakers can get the most from this papermaking experience.

This is an amazing museum, school and shop for all things hand made paper. It is a really interesting place and a fabulous place to buy paper. Prices range from pennies to much much more, with an incredible variety.
