Dec 2023 • Family
Our family had a fantastic ride over bridges, across boulevards, and down narrow lanes under the excellent care of Toshi, who was a truly exceptional guide with terrific English (and a sense of humor that even my daughters (aged 13-22) loved. In a relaxed, energetic, safe way, Toshi showed us temples, monuments, famous little shops, and much more. His love of his job shows, and our family was sorry to say goodbye at the end of the tour. Can’t recommend this experience highly enough.

Went w/ guides Carlos and Yukiko- they were awesome!! We had a great tour of the city on bike, water and had an awesome picnic. I would have never thought Tokyo was so amazing - but after this tour and seeing many fantastic sites along the way - it changed my perception. Well worth the money and highly recommended!!!!

Travelling alone in Tokyo is a lot of fun. But seeing the city with others is a great spice. Therefore I went on Tokyo Great Cycling Tour route C. It was an amazing day. The 28 km route went down the smallest and most quiet alleys as well as very busy roads. The tour really showed the great contrasts of Tokyo. Yuki was an amazing guide with great knowledge about and love of Tokyo. I had a million questions about the city and she answered every single one. The food was so good and if there is anything you need it might just be in Yukis bag. Next time I come to Tokyo I will definitely book one of the other routes. I would recommend this route to people who know their way on a bike. Do choose one of the other routes if you are less experienced. Either way you will have a great day!

My husband and I did the Route C 'Cool Tokyo Ride' with Yuki. It was indeed very cool and one of the most enjoyable days of our two weeks in Tokyo. What better way to see this remarkable city than on a bright and zippy Tokyo Bike, in the safe and capable hands of an experienced local? Yuki was a knowledgable, enthusiastic and responsible guide. The nature of this particular route is that there is a lot of riding and not so many stops. Even so, we felt well informed about the highlights of the tour, while satisfied with a decent day's riding. We ride a lot at home and could be described as pretty fit and confident cyclists (not gung-ho though, and both over 50). I wouldn't call this route a physical challenge: it's more that you have to have a level of bike awareness, for example in negotiating some busy footpaths and pedestrian crossings. As advertised, there were a few hills (pretty short and not onerous) and a fair bit of on-road riding. This was mostly on very interesting little backstreets and we felt safe at all times. As second-time visitors to Tokyo, we felt that this extensive tour took us to places we would never have accessed by ourselves, while some familiar places were seen from new perspectives. We had many 'wow' moments along the way. The picnic lunch in the winter sun in Yoyogi Park broke up the day really well. The guide, the company, the scenery and above all the riding itself all made for a wonderful and memorable day. Thanks Yuki :)

I'm not particularly sporty or fit, and the last time I rode a bike was when I was at school over 15 years ago so I was a bit apprehensive about booking a cycling tour. Having ummed and ahhed over whether to book it or not - I am very glad to say that I took the plunge and booked it and had a fantastic day!

I booked the tour online and was sent details of where to meet and when (including a map). Following the instructions on the map, I found the meeting place really easily, although I would stress that it is on quite a quiet little side alley/street so you may feel like you're taking a wrong turn! However, look for the markers on the map and you should be fine (e.g Starbucks, ATM machine and cafe).

I did the Route A (Tokyo Bay) tour and thought that this was a great way to see plenty of interesting Tokyo sights in a relatively short space of time. There were 10 of us on the tour, plus 2 great guides. One guide led the way, and the other guide rode at the back.

Bikes were provided which were appropriate for our height (based on measurements provided in the booking form) and we were supplied with helmets and our first bottle of water. There was a small bag on the front of the bike which was perfect for storing my camera, asthma inhaler and mini fan.

During the day, numerous refreshments were provided by the guides and water was provided in plentiful supply. Before we set off on the tour, we were asked to select what bento box lunch we would like and this was ready and waiting for us when we arrived at the lunch spot in Odaiba beach area. We also were treated to frozen fruit (yummy & very refreshing!), fresh tuna from Tsukiji market, a drink on the water bus and another drink at a cafe later in the day.

The tour was mostly on quiet side streets, pavements and pedestrianised walkways with only a small part of the day being on what I would class as bigger roads. I have never cycled on public roads before but found this to be fine as drivers in Tokyo seem quite considerate of other people. There were a couple of hilly parts on the tour but nothing too bad and the guides were very patient to wait for anyone who wanted/needed to go a bit slower.

The tour took in some great sites and we had numerous stops throughout the day to look around, get our breathe back and listen to the guides telling us about our stop. I am a photo addict who loves to take hundreds of pictures on my holidays so if I was being picky then I might have liked to stop at a few more places for photo opportunities. However, I can't really complain as I did manage to take over 100 photos during the tour! In particular, the temple, the shrines and the water bus provided some great photo opportunities!

Overall I had a fantastic day on this tour and would fully recommend it to anyone wishing to see a bit more of Tokyo than they might be able to see on their own. I also thought it was great value! In fact, as I am working in Tokyo for a couple of months, I plan on going back to try the other tours!

Did the Route B tour. The guides were very friendly and looked after us very well. Rode through some back streets, through the university and to a mochi shop which we wouldnt have otherwise seen, but also saw sumo stadium, skytree and famed tourist sites. Particular highlight was cycling on the roads around the imperial palace, which are reserved for cyclists on Sundays which allowed us plenty of freedom. The ride was flat and safe, we are not super confident riders but had no trouble. Great value for money. Definitely a must-do tour!

I went on this cycling tour because my first choice was not operating over the Japanese holiday weekend. I typically enjoy cycling tours because you get to see things that you won't have access to on a bus tour. I have mixed feelings about this. The tour guides were friendly and provided us with plenty of refreshments during our journey. Cons: route was not that interesting. They offer different routes depending on the day, Although it seemed interesting on paper, some of the stops were not that interesting. For example, we stopped at the sumo wrestling stadium, but we did not go in. We cycled through a huge park that had a bueatiful shrine, but the rest stop was under a tree near an amphitheater. We misses great photo opportunities along the way because our rest stops did not align with the most scenic portions of the route. They cycled too fast and kept losing people in the group.
Pros: The route took us through neighborhoods and along shaded cycling paths that I would never find on my own. The lunch and treats at the pastry shop were tasty. I really enjoyed the ice candy we tried at Tokyo University. The hospitality shown to us by the tour guides was the best I have ever experienced on a bike tour.
The group was quite fun. After finishing the tour, we sat around at the office and talked for a while before going our separate ways.

Recommendation: Change the resting points along the route. Learn a little more detail about the sites. Slow down!
Conclusion: I would probably go on a tour with company again, but I would try a different route with different guides.

Having not riden a bike for many years I was a bit nervous about embarking on this trip but the excellent reviews on here tempted me. I am so glad I did it. It was hard work (for me!) - whilst the majority of the course is flat there are a few slopes to contend with approaching bridges and going past the Tokyo Tower but no-one minded when I got off and pushed! The pace was just right - enough stops to catch your breath but plenty of cycling as well and we covered a lot of ground and saw many different places. I enjoyed cycling through the back streets and along the river. The visit to the fish market was a highlight too. Our guides were really good - stopping to buy frozen fruit snacks to cool us down (it was very hot with little shade most of the time) and replenishing the water bottles regularly. We had lunch by the beach with amazing fresh tuna sashimi from the fish market, and then had a rest as we took a boat over the bay before setting off on our bikes again. Drinks on the boat and at a cafe in a lovely temple we visited were also included. I really felt I had seen a bit more of Tokyo than I would otherwise have done and learnt a bit about Japanese history at the same time. Even when the tour was over and we were back at the office the hospitality continued with beers for those who wanted them. I also liked the fact that a photographer accompanied us and took lots of pictures of us cycling which were quickly uploaded on to the company's Facebook site for free download - a really nice touch. And don't worry if the office where you meet up is not near your hotel - I travelled there by metro and it was really easy to find following the map provided by the company on their website.

A great day out, if you have the time, I would highly recommend this tour.

If you think Tokyo is a metropolitan with just trains and undergrounds running around the city, follow them and discover another Tokyo beyond your imagination.

We knew the tour from a local article in my country at the very beginning of their establishment, when sharing in social media like Facebook was not popular. It was interesting to us because we had been traveling to Tokyo for many times but the first time to know a new way to look around the city. We believed TGCT was the very first company organizing cycling tour in the city, so we joined the tour and no doubt they gave us an unforgettable experience and enjoyable memory.

We were a group of six, joined route A which was the only route that provided at that time. Yet it was a very nice route which you can see various spots showing Tokyo in different aspects, from tradition to modern. It was not a difficult route too, so I highly recommend this route.

One may find it difficult to communicate with Japanese people(though it was in the old days), but not for this tour. Yukiko, Masa, and Haruna were the guides of our tour, and they were good at English(Haruna speaks Mandarin too), so communication was not a problem to us.

Introductions to the places were clear and full of fun. This route included visiting Tsukiji Fish Market which is a well-known fish market that will be closed(move to a new site) in 2018 in order to cope with the construction works of Olympic 2020. Highly recommend you to visit it before its closure. We also had the chance to take the water bus that allowed us to see Tokyo at a different angle. Having lunchbox(bento) under the clear sky at Odaiba with a wide-open view of Tokyo Bay was relaxing and enjoyable.

What we got from the tour was not just sweat and photos, but also friendships. The guides were friendly and helpful, and they love making friends with people coming from all around the world. It was more than what I expected for a cycling tour.

If you want some refreshment in the heart of the city, or if you want to see another Tokyo apart from its hustle and bustle, or even if you are just tired of doing shopping in Tokyo, take a ride and discover it yourselves. I believe you would have a wonderful time on the tour and an unforgettable memory.
