The area
Address
Neighborhood: Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.

Sleek use of space
Feb 2018
I enjoyed shopping under the bridge, the brown bricks offer a different feel to the usual Tokyo shopping experiences. The whole precinct reminded me strongly of home, in inner city Melbourne--except rather than Australian made crafts and furniture, things were locally made, Japanese craft!

Excellent use of space
Oct 2017 • Solo
While reading about it I was not sure if I should go or not, but beleive me it is worth going. The enterence had a very nice brewery but as I need to travel through the day had coffee in the restaurant. They have created amazing shopping experiences and best of all are the miniature station beneath. A must visit place while in Tokyo.

Renovated old train station.
Mar 2017 • Solo
Ex-station is renewed to nice spot.
This place is located at Akihabara, under Chuo line train.
You can see and feel the train passing very close to you at second floor view point.
秋葉原の近くにある施設。昔の万世橋駅をリニューアルして作られた。
中央線の線路の高架下にあるのだが、二階のカフェや展望スペースでは、すぐ脇を通り抜ける快速電車の迫力を感じられます。

Remember the past
Jan 2017 • Solo
This spot used to be a Main Terminal of Chuo-line and a busy spot. Many people used to exhange tramways with Chuo-line trains and enjoy movie theaters , shoppings. It was constructed in 1912 based on the design by Mr. Kingo Tatsuo who also designed Tokyo station. There was a statue of Lieutenant Colonel Hirose and Warrant Officer Gugino, war heroes in those days who died during Russo-Japan war in the plaza in front of the station. Tokyo station was constructeed in 1914 and gradually Manseibashi Station lost the status and was demolished in 1936. The statue was also demolished after the second world war. Manseibashi(bridge) has a mysterious room now under the toilet. The former is closed, only reachable from the river and nobody knows what the purpose of the room was for.

Great for boutique shopping
Jul 2016
Situated inside the old train station foundations, and alongside the waterfront, this place is very unique. The shopping options change regularly as they have a lot of pop-up stores for local designers. There are restaurants on the outside of the building and also the Hitachino Nest Brew Lab so you can eat and shop all in the one place. Very trendy.

Escape Akihabara for Calm and Coffee!
Jul 2016 • Couples
We nipped in here after walking through akihabara. It is a complete contrast to the main street and it is housed under the arches of the bridge.
Full of artisan goods showing traditional and high quality and also contemporary pieces. If you walk right through the shops you will find a lovely coffee shop near the bottom. Cracking coffee here!

Best Part Was Cafe N3331
May 2016 • Solo
Read about Maach in a New York Times travel article and also saw a YouTube video about it. That is why I put it on my to see list when visiting Tokyo.

I thought there were more shops in the building. Architecturally it is a very interesting use of space. But sparse as far as vendors to visit. There is a small library/gift shop that caters to the history of the closed Manseibashi railway. Also a couple of restaurants and brew pub.

The most clever space is the compact but bright cafe N3331 on the 2nd level, formerly the train platform. Stop in for a coffee, juice, or sake. It even serves a couple quick lunch items. The current Chuo line still run through. Have a beverage and watch the trains go by.

This isn't too far from Akihabara so you can combine it when in electronic town.

Japanese Artisan Stores
Apr 2016 • Friends
I loved the architecture here. It took us less than an hour to walk through the lineup of stores. Prices seemed a bit higher but likely due to the uniqueness of their products. We arrived here by taking the JR Yamanote train to the Akihabara station - exit at the Electric Town (denki gai) exit. Its a 5 minute walk to this site.
