Neighborhood: Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.

There are 3 different rooms over 2 floors here, and we were pleased to find several friendly, outgoing cats both upstairs and downstairs. I really liked the fact that the cats had several cat sized "escape" exits into other non-public rooms that were off limits to visitors. Good to know they have that option for private space when they want a break from people.
We met lots of cute cats that were out and looking for attention - and after purchasing the special treats (300 Yen) we were especially popular! The cats really did seem healthy and happy and got along well with one another.
The rate was 1000 Yen per hour, with drinks costing extra. We also purchased a couple bottled drinks that were around 600 Yen each...kind of expensive but it was worth it considering we were surrounded by purring cats while we enjoyed our beverages :)

Many, many cats in a very small appartement (not a bar) with no windows. The cats are constantly bothered by cat "lovers"... it might be normal in Japan but very depressing if you own cats in another country.

This cat café is every cat lover's dream. You'll find lovely felines you can pet, feed, do photo opps and just chill with to your heart's delight. Just remember not to feed the cats with scarves around their necks, watch out though since they can be a bit aggressive if they feel you're not paying attention to them. The cats are really cute and have different personalities so they won't respond the same way even if they're used to visitors. I'm not much of a cat person but it was still an enjoyable and interesting visit. :)

Definitely not worth a visit. 1200 yen for an hour - drinks extra. Place small and rather shoddy. Cats all asleep!

Amazing place, not really a cafe as I expected but more someone's house which is full of cats. Pricing has changed - now 1000 for an hour and 500 per half hour after that. Drinks extra but affordable. We tried to count the cats but failed, there are a lot. Well worth a visit to experience, and obviously great if you like cats!

A quiet spot to relax with teh kitties in busy Akihabara. It was fun and cute. The best way to find it is from the 711 nearby, then there are signs. There is also a bunny cafe downstairs but we didn't visit them today.

The cat cafe was interesting in the sense that it is very Tokyo-esque so I wanted to check one out. I thought it was a little pricey at 1000 yen per person for 30 minutes (I believe there was a discount if you stay for an hour, I want to say it was 1200 per person per hour but I was done after 30 minutes). When I went the cats were not interested in me, so I pretty much sat alone while my husband was like Noah in the flesh. That's no fault of the company, of course, just the way of cats. So for me it was eh, but my husband enjoyed it.

I was really keen to see a cat cafe after hearing about them and this was great - be prepared to,climb four flights of stairs, put on slippers wash hands then you are into two stories of cat room, about a dozen multi coloured cats around and interacting with each other and visitors. The cats are well looked after with plenty of spaces to sit, play or sleep and attentive carers with escape hatches if they want to be on their own.
The cats were all around but the trick to get them to interact without fail is to buy the cat treats - 100yen was bargain as we got to have them all over us. Hilarious when the plump cats were separated for a short time so they would not eat the treats!
Even more fun was watching Janaese child and young people interact with the cats - we have our own and are really familiar with behavior and antics but for the Japanese who live in tiny apartments and have no opportunity to own a pet it was clearly a novelty and their reactions were almost more entertaining than watching the cats!
Don't expect a conventional cafe a you can buy a drink but it's really not the aim of a visit! There is a small fee, which varies on the time you spend there.
A short visit is enough but great fun and a must if you are a cat tragic like me!!!
