The area

Address
Neighborhood: Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.

My interest for this specific location was to take some photos of the moving trains. From the top of the bridge you can have a view of the trains coming in and out of the train stations, sometimes three oe more trains at one time. So a great site for light trails caused by the moving trains against the setting sun. Otherwise there is nothing but the usual hustle and bustle of the train stations.

If you want to do more with the Hijiribashi Bridge than just take a picture, you can use it to cross over the Kanda River. Once you do that, you can either cross back over the way you came, or walk along the Kanda River and cross back over on a different bridge. Or, if your final destination is the side you just crossed, you can stay there! To mix it up, you can hop on the Sobu Main Line or Yamanote Line (but not the Chuo Line, which traces the Kanda River), and cross the Kanda River by rail! There are so many options!

Downstream, in the outskirts of Akihibara, there are many new and interesting restaurants and shops built into the viaducts supporting the elevated rail.

It's also full of old people going to the hospital, so don't let anyone cough their TB on you. You'll find Korean hawkers trying to sell counterfeit bags there and homeless people too sometimes.
