普段滅多に見ることのない公文書を、申請手続きを経れば誰でも閲覧・複写が可能な、非常に貴重な資料館と言えます。憲法や法律、叙勲、各種国家規模の事業の契約に至るまでの公文書が収められており、日本の歴史の遷移を公文書から辿るという貴重な体験が出来ます。勿論外交関係の公文書も多数あるため、日本語だけでなく諸外国言語の公文書もあります。ただ、やはり現代の文体に照らし合わせて見ると、明治から昭和初期の公文書の文体は、やや読みにくい。読める読めないにかかわらず、往年の雰囲気を味わう目的でもいいのかもしれません。 1階の展示室では、テーマに即した展示会が催されていることもあります。入場は無料で誰でも閲覧でき、公文書だけでなくテーマに即した他の展示品を見ることも出来ます。規模は小さく他の美術館や博物館に比べると地味な印象ですが、『公文書』という側面の展示は、他の博物館にはない違った印象を受けるかもしれません。 It is a archive museum that anyone can view and copy various official documents that are rarely seen at all by applying for them.
