Neighborhood: Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.

A bunch of vending machines all congregated together, surrounded by some very odd signs (all in Japanese) selling popcorn, metal beetles, balls, small models of Shinkansen alongside the usual hot and cold beverages! Loads of rubbish around and sells ‘interesting’.

Don't waste your time. Massive let down. All machines are the same. Area is dirty and dark. Not a tourist area. Looks like some items have been in the machine for along time. I bought a tin of chocolate bread.. as we spent 1 hour in the train.

I am a big fan of Tim Burton and Freddie Mercury because they are both sort of wild!! I also happen to be a big fan of novelty museums and I went to a few crazy ones like the Graveface in Savanah!! I looked up weird vending machines in Tokyo and obviously this is one of the top ones!! I read some of the stories on the white boxes using google translate because I’m on a preschool level of understanding Japanese!! The stories were very wild and dark and I am not going to put the pictures here because I don’t know if I’m allowed to!! They also had fake bugs in the machines which were crazy!!

Really weird! Recommended if you like creepy weird stuff. I’m not sure I understood it but I’m glad I visited.

Visited at night, far creepier than I expected. Poorly lit and tight for space with one machine blocking off a staircase to what ever is above. The vending machines contain items you would expect to find as well as some oddities. Perhaps the most interesting of these are boxes wrapped in plan paper with notes written in Japanese taped to them. Spending a little time using google translate to read these proves to be interesting and somewhat unsettling.
I left with more questions than answers.
Worth a visit.
