The Azalea garden at the shrine is spectacular in April and well worth a visit and the modest few hundred yen entrance fee.

The azalea garden was stunning. Never seen anything like that. So many varieties of azalea, perfectly landscaped...it was amazing.

We were lucky to catch the start of the Azalea festival at Nezu Shrine. We went very early to avoid the crowds. Not all the azaleas were in full bloom but those that were had very beautiful flowers. It was a site to behold! Azaleas...More

One of the older shrines, this is probably rated best to visit when they Azalea are flowering, we visited during the Sakura season but because everything was flowering early the Azalea show had just opened before we flew out. The shrine itself is not overly...More

Nezu Shrine is my favorite shrine in Tokyo. 😍 I recommend November as the best month to visit Nezu Shrine because of the yellow ginkgo tree at the entrance. Make Nezu Shrine the last part of the YaNeSen walk! I never planned to visit Nezu...More

Really enjoyed my time here! It's such a quiet place and not crowded (maybe because of the time of the year -February-). I enjoyed watching the big fish and turtles in the waters around the shrine. The shrine itself is really colorful!

A wonderfully calm and peaceful shrine and temple hidden in the neighborhood. Enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing locals there with their children. Not a big tourist trap which means it makes for a delightfully calm Japanese experience.

This place gives you the chance to relax after busy time in the centre of Tokyo. Beautiful architecture and nature. Peace and calm. Truly Japanese. Warto odwiedzić, tak spokojne miejsce w zabieganym Tokyo daje chwilę oddechu. Nam się podobało. Spokój i ciesza. Tak sobie wyobrażałam...More

If you are as much a fan of NHK World as we are, you likely have seen a picture of the vermillion torii gates of Nezu Shrine on your television. The torii gates at Nezu were a disappointment, however; they are unimpressive and quite small....More

Nezu Shrine itself is not much to speak of BUT the Azalea Garden is one of the most extraordinary gardens in Tokyo, you have to catch it early in the morning in April or May before the crowds get there.

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping

Hi! The shrine does not close but if you want to walk in the garden with the azaleas, you have to see the Azalea Festival schedule for 2019. The garden opens at 9AM during the festival.

Take the Chiyoda metro line to Nezu station. The shrine is only a couple minutes walk from there--you can see the local map at the station.
