「東京都戦没者霊苑 遺品展示室」をご存じでしょうか？礫川公園の北隣にある東京都戦没者霊苑の一画にある休憩所の2階に遺品展示室はありました。
この展示室にはご遺族からお預かりした遺品などが展示されています。千人針、防弾チョッキには弾が貫通した痕があり、先の大戦で米軍と壮烈な戦いのすえ、玉砕した硫黄島において遺骨収集団の壕の中から持ち帰ったものを観覧すると壮絶な戦いがあったことがよくわかります。またハバロフスク市内の墓地に木柱に「友よ安らかに眠れ」と刻まれていましたが、平和や戦争について考えさせられました。
以前、鹿児島県知覧特攻平和会館を訪ねた時のことが頭をよぎり哀しみが溢れてきました。

後楽園駅に直結の「礫川公園」の西側の階段を登り切ったところにあります。このような施設があることを初めて知りました。心して訪問すべき施設だと感じました。

建物の１階の入口付近で芳名帳に名前を書き、２階の展示室に上がって見学する順序になっています。事務所にスタッフの方はいましたが、どうぞご自由に見学くださいといった雰囲気で、特にこれといったチェックもありませんでした。展示室に入った最初の印象は狭いと思ったのですが、実際に展示一つ一つを見ていくと、小さな携行品や手紙などの遺品が数多く、それらを丁寧に見ているうちに相当な時間が経っていました。千人針の実物をじっくり見るのも初めての体験でした。駆け足で眺めることなく、ぜひゆっくり見学されることをおすすめします。

礫川公園の階段を上ったエリアに東京都戦没者霊苑の中に造られています。階段を上って２階の部屋に入ると、コンビニほどの広さの資料館がありました。先の大戦で使用された日の丸や鉄兜、千人針、軍服などが陳列されていました。
