綺麗に整備された階段

こちらは、菊坂方面から春日通り方面に向かって本郷の台地を上る急な階段の坂です。
階段は手摺もあり、とても綺麗に整備されてました。
名前の由来は、雨が降ると人が転がり落ちて、泥で真っ黒になった様子が、木炭などを丸く固めた炭団に似ていたと言う説と、炭団の商人がいたなどの説があるそうです。

急な坂道

文豪たちの旧居跡めぐりのために菊坂周辺を散策したとき，坂の上の坪内逍遥旧居跡を目指して上りました。結構急な坂で少し疲れました。

本郷から菊坂へ

本郷台地から菊坂へ下る急な坂です。この辺りに炭団を商売するものが多かったとか転び落ちたものがいたという事から付けられてそうです。かなり急な事から現在は手摺も設置されています。坂上には坪内逍遥旧居跡があります。

坪内逍遙旧居跡も

急な階段の坂です。菊坂から直接アクセスできるのではなく、その南側に平行した細い道から曲がったところにあります。上がって右手には、坪内逍遙旧居跡がありました。

昔は炭団を扱う商人が多かったようです。

昔は炭団を扱う商人が多かったようで、このような名前が付いています。文京区の本郷界隈を散策した際にふるさと歴史館、樋口一葉旧居などの名所旧跡を回りながら通った道です。坂道は上と下で全く異なる風景に出会えるので楽しく感じました。

文京区の坂めぐり散歩

東京は意外と坂が多くて、文京区も坂を楽しめます。炭団（たどん）なんて、平成の子には読めないかな？昔はこの辺りに炭団を商売にしていた人が多かったようです。

今は手摺や踊り場が付いた綺麗な石段になっています

　かつては本郷台地から菊坂の谷に下る急な坂だったとか。　今は手摺や踊り場が付いた綺麗な石段になっています。
　結構長い石段を上がり下がりするのに大変で、名前の由来の一つになっている「切り立った急な坂で転び落ちる者がいた」というのが分かります。
　が、今は安心して通れる綺麗な石段になっています。

階段状の坂道

本郷台地から菊坂の谷へ下る階段状の急な坂道です。名前の由来は「炭団を商売にするものが多かった」とか「切り立った急な坂で転び落ちた者がいた」ということからつけられたようです。坂の上には坪内逍遥旧居跡、坂の下には宮沢賢治旧居跡がありますので両方を巡ると必然的にこの坂を上り下りすることになります。

面白い名前の坂の由来は諸説あります。

　近代文学の街、菊坂町から文京ふるさと歴史館に移動する際に、この階段を上りました。坂の下には宮沢賢治旧居跡があり、坂の上には坪内逍遥旧居跡があるので、文人ゆかりの地めぐりをする際にも利用される階段の様です。どうしてこの様なよく分からない名前が付いたのかは諸説あるようですが、なんだか文学の街にふさわしい名前の様にも思えました。
