More interesting than expected

I was initially not planning to visit the citadel as I found the entrance fee of 8,75euro expensive. But the reviews on tripadvisor were all positive, so I went after all. In... read more

Built high above the harbor of Belle Ile, the citadel offers not only a perspective of the old fortress but also sweeping views of the ocean and the town with its many colored buildings. Inside the citadel there are beautiful gardens, gun emplacements, and well preserved buildings and walls. While it is quite a walk around the property it is... More

Spent a most enjoyable few hours exploring the citadel. There are lovely views and the buildings and museum are most interesting. Wish we had known beforehand that there was a restaurant here as there is a reduced price entry if you have lunch and the restaurant looked really good.

We were really disappointed with the museum. The views are spectacular, your imagination can run wild visually, but why not take the effort to make it really special. If you are going to make this an international attraction, then include other languages beside French. For anyone that truly cares about the embedded events that occurred there this is a major... I was initially not planning to visit the citadel as I found the entrance fee of 8,75euro expensive. But the reviews on tripadvisor were all positive, so I went after all. In the museum the history if the island was explained in great detail without getting too elaborate. Only in French though, which is not an issue for me, but... More

If you're staying at the hotel then the museum is free and convenient as it is within the hotel grounds.

The museum was closed when we visited but we enjoyed the views of the water, sailboats and the great overlook of Le Palais. Great spot to enjoy an afternoon. Small fee.

The admission fee gives you access to the museum and to the whole citadel. The museum concerns the history of Belle-île, Le Palais and the citadel itself. It is very interesting and the location is just amazing. You can then explore the citadel and enjoy the many great views it offers.

Nice museum where you can find (and read) the history of Belle-Ile. In the court there is a hotel and a five-stars restaurant, as well. The garden all around is very well decorated and the view of the island is charming.

We spent a whole morning here last year and loved the views, the history of the place and the museum.
