We went there to see seal in nature, but we didn't see them. So don't expect about that. Anyway, sunset and sunrise here is beautiful.we stayed in ryokan close to cape,so it's easy to come early in the morning.

It takes about 4 hours from Sapporo to Cape Erimo by car through the highway. Usually, the wind is very strong there, and this cape is often misty. Please take care of the weather. Scenery surrounded by the sea is wonderful and a little mysterious. When I went, the waves from east and the waves from west joined together in this cape. I saw such mysterious scenery for the first time.

Expect wind. Hope for a glimpse of seals on rocks a looong way away thru telescopes at the Visitor's Center. Enjoy the stunning sea\rock views (if there isn't mist) and go down onto the small, grey sand beach on the Obihiro side of the peninsular to watch local people harvesting the kelp. They do it 6 am to 4 pm in summer, and when the kelp floats near shore they rush out to grab it with hooks.

This is a very pretty area and has a wonderful mix of nature and scenic views. If you have binoculars, you can see (in late July) a large herd of Kuril Harbor Seals. Amongst the seals, there are wonderful wild flowers and amazing rock formations spotted along the coast. The souvenir shop contains many local Kelp products as well as local seafood. Excellent location to visit.
