About
Founded in 2008 by British expats Sue and Rod Weeding, our non-profit rescue centre saves neglected, abused and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys across the Alicante region of Spain. We are open to the public every day from 12 pm to 2 pm (booking required), for a tour in our stables and fields, home to 120 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys. Hear the incredible survival stories of some of our most famous horses – including beautiful Bronson, who survived being beaten with a hammer and Luceiro, who lost an eye but remains one of our most majestic and spirited horses.

This is a great day out for young and old the Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre used to do free tours the first Sunday of the month. But since Covid you can book a private tour any day of the week it's €10.00 for an adult and €5.00 for children it's well worth the money as you get to meet the 122 horses, ponies and donkeys and hear some of their stories. There are also the beautiful peacocks, chickens, Isadora the pot bellied pig and gorgeous Ruppert the pig to see. The private tour allows you a more personable view of the animals and you still have the opportunity to buy drinks and snacks from the snack bar. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are anywhere near Rojales it really is a very special place.

Me and my sister Jen went on the first open day of 2020, they are held the first Sunday of every month. The centre is down a small camino road with not a lot of parking but you can always leave your car in Rojales and walk its only about a mile away and a lovely walk through the orange groves. The rescue centre is a delight and a little bit run down but this is to be expected with all the work they are doing as it's not cheap caring for over 100 horses and donkeys. The tours are free and there was around 30 people on each tour. All the workers are volunteers so some of the service is a bit hap hazard but this just adds to the charm of your visit. The tour guide was very informative and all the horses had a sad story to tell but now they are in a safe place. You can have your lunch in the cafe there are vegan and vegetarian choices. I had the jacket potato with vegan bolognese topping and my sister had chips with baked beans both were very nice. We will definitely go back.

Our guide Andrew was very amusing and obviously cared deeply about all the horses and donkeys in their care. We were shown around and given information about many of the horses survival stories. The centre costs a lot of money to run so if you book a tour you will be helping to support their work. Well worth a visit.

Second visit. Tour led by a brilliant volunteer called Andrew. Loved seeing so many of the same horses, ponies and donkeys that we saw 5 years ago… still going strong and being looked after.

It’s really hot! So water is a must!
2 of my daughters felt faint so we took them to sit in a shaded garden area which was lovely and we got to meet the rescue turkey.

Only down side was that the tour was booked on the day the farrier was visiting so things felt a little fraught. When I needed to get daughter 2 out of the sun I was spoken to pretty rudely by a woman. I recall the same woman was particularly rude 5 years ago too… 🫣
It did put a slight dampener on things as we were there to donate mainly and it’s never nice to be on the receiving end of another persons stress… but some people are better with animal which is why she does what she does. And how wonderful she does it as it makes such a difference.

Overall I would highly recommend a visit to this centre. The volunteers are all lovely and the animals wonderful. This centre is doing an incredible job and deserves all the support people can offer.

Really good visit.

Enjoyed each animal’s story and histories. It was hot when we visited but the guide was very considerate and made provision for shade. Water was available and flies were not an issue.

We parked on the road outside the centre.

Open the 1st Sunday each month from 1pm - 4 pm, we took a 2 hour round trip to visit this centre, and spent a wonderful 3 hours. The owners Sue and Rod, and volunteers are very friendly and welcoming, it was nice to sit in the shade of a huge pine tree and have a snack whilst listening to 'bluegrass' music. Rod then took us on a tour to meet the rescued horses, ponies and donkeys.

Rod is a truly amazing person who deserves a medal of the highest accolade for his hard work and dedication, he battles the elements to keep these animals safe, fed and well, to the point of working with his bare hands when their equipment fails. He told us the name of every animal (108 at the time) and the tragic stories of most of these truly majestic creatures who have suffered at the hands of greedy, ugly minded mankind. There is a hint of bitterness in his voice as he relays the tales of what he has seen, and how difficult the rescue itself can be, even needing armed police to assist him on one occasion.
They have the wonderful support of Almoradi Police, and some of the best vetinary assistance in Spain, but it doesn't come cheap, all of these animals have needed surgery, some very complex, and some need ongoing medical treatment.
The visit ended with a raffle draw which was great fun, we won a jigsaw puzzle and a bottle of wine.
Anyhow, please go visit this centre, take along any unwanted items you have that they could use as raffle prizes, or sell in their charity shops, and above all, be generous, as every much needed penny is spent on the animals.

I convinced my family (non-horse people) to drive out to Easy Horse Care for the monthly Open Day. We had a wonderful time. They had little welcoming drinks for us all, a raffle draw and then the tour. I bought a heap of raffle tickets and won a whole bunch of fun stuff including very colourful bottles of wine !

Rod gave us a tour of the facilities plus some info on particular horses. Many horses have quite dramatic rescue stories - hard to listen to but with happy endings now that they are at Easy Horse rescue.

If you love horses and even if you don't, the visit is worth it. Don't overlook the work they do here - it's incredibly heartfelt and inspiring.

We visited in July 2016 and I'm planning to volunteer...

After seeing this sanctuary on the TV and shedding many tears hearing the awful stories of abuse I decided to raise some funds at work holding a tombola.
As I was in Spain on holiday I thought I would visit and meet some of the animals.
We were made so welcome and I was fortunate to be given a tour. We were told that some people have just thrown dogs over their gate and dumped animals on the door step but they never turn any animals away but then have to pay vets bills to get the animals right. The animals are so loved and taken care of. Sue, Rod and the volunteers are so dedicated. They need over 4500 euros per week just to get by! Please look at their website and donate by making a one off payment or setting up a regular payment no matter how small as every little helps! They also have charity shops if you look on the website next time you visit Spain or even better go to the open day.

Lovely drive into the countryside. Warm welcome at the gate and as we were hungry on arrival we had egg, chips and chocolate cake before doing the tour. All delicious. The atmosphere is very happy and peaceful. Surprised to find chickens, peacocks, a pig, a parrot, dogs and even a fish pond as well as the horses, donkeys and ponies of all sizes. So many horses and not a blade of grass. The food bill must be huge! The yard is spotless and the horses surprisingly calm and seemingly happy to interact with the many visitors. I think this shows how much love and care they have received as you would expect such abused animals to want little human contact. Their stories are truly heartbreaking but the work that goes on here, including the all important educational side, is inspiring.

Easy Horse Care Rescue centre is run by husband and wife Rod and Sue and a number of helpers. The Centre has a public "open day" on the first Sunday of each month. There are guided tours to go and see the horses, ponies, donkeys and minis - now around 107 of them! They are all rescue equines and each has it's own, often sad, story but always with a happy ending. There is a alfresco seating area for refreshments and light meals. This is a MUST visit for any animal lover coming to the Vega Baja area in Spain.
