The views from the top of the small mountain are wonderful.
Landwards, you see modern Alicante stretching for miles and miles and you see even beyond. Seawards, you see old Alicante, dainty houses, ecclesial domes, colourful buildings, the harbour, the beaches, everything is so lovely. Santa Barbara Castle is atop this monte.

Probably the most beautiful sightseeing place in Alicante. Nice view over the mountain from different places. Definitely gives extra atmosphere to Alicante.
Unfortunately didn’t have time to go top of the mountain, but hopefully one day can do that.

A bit of a difficult hike to the top, but absolutely worth it. A 360 degree view of the city is a must-see when you are visiting Alicante. Be sure to wear your hiking shoes because you'll definitely be breaking a sweat. Lovely spot to take photos.

Unusually for a hilltop fort this one benefits from a lift from the beachfront almost all the way to the top.

There is a lift to the top of the castle, well worth a few euros! The views from the top are amazing- full 360 degree views of Alicante and the surrounding areas. Interesting site, which signage explaining the castle. There are two cafes, perfect for ice cream on a hot day. We walked back to the old town from the castle - took about 35 minutes but hot under the midday sun! Highly recommend.

Well we went there "off season" so it's only open until 8 pm. But we got to watch the sun set over the city and sea. A real nice view!
You can choose to walk or to take the car up there. I heard from another person that there is an elevator. But I never saw it so can't confirm it.
We took the car up. But if you walk, make sure to walk in good shoes and bring water. It's a rather high climb to the top.
It is definitely worth visiting this place. You will leave with a couple of great photos. I'm sure of it!

Monte Benacantil is a presence. Walking through Alicante and catching glimpses of the mountain and ruins give an almost surreal feel. Modern Alicante and its ancient history

This mountain is beautiful from all angles and a prominent feature of Alicante.
The views from the top is breathtaking!
As hobbyist photographer I decided to visit the top in time for sunset and didn't regret it!
I took the lift, which is accessed from near the beach, via a long tunnel. The price is under €3 and includes the castle as well as return lift rides.
The only slight issue was that although "closing time" of the castle is 8pm, the last lift was at 7.30pm. At this time the sky still had ever changing colours and I would have liked to have stayed a little bit longer. Unfortunately my feet wouldn't have managed the walk down.
The sunset was an ever changing painter's pallet.
Panoramic views gave fantastic views over Alicante city, harbour and the sea.
The castle was great to see too... Ideally I should have left more time for that.

This is a beautiful natural feature on the edge of town and you really can’t miss it. We were staying about 8 km away so got the excellent tram service and got off at Marq station.
from here we walked to the top which took us about 20 minutes. . Make sure you take sturdy footwear as it can get quite hard going even though it is a long quiet road. For those with the car, there is a free carpark at the top and you can save your energy!
Once there, the views are stunning and worth the effort. Entry to the castle is free and this affords 360° views of the whole city and surrounding area. Definitely worth the effort and get some exercise into the bargain as well.

What are the opening time please
Written March 11, 2019
If I am not mistaken, the castle opens every day at 10 am. Closing time depends on the season: October through March at 8 pm, April-May-June-September at 10 pm and July-August at 11.45 pm. Take care however cause the elevator usually runs from 10 am through 7.45 pm ! Enjoy !
