This traditional street ties beautifully together many of the places you will like to see in Alicante. The Basilica of the Virgin, Saint Nicholas proCathedral, nearness to Santa Barbara, the City Hall, the Museum of Christmas Cribs, etc, to name a few.
I found myself crisscrossing it, walking along it, to and fro several times in my short visit to Alicante. Many times also, I paused to take in the views of this street.

In most cities and towns in Spain, you can find Calle Mayor. Carlos III suggested the idea when he was Mayor of Madrid in 1765.

In Alicante, this street is located between the Rambla de Mendez Nunez and Plaza de Santisima Faz.

Despite the name, it is a quite narrow street but has a bustling atmosphere with many shops, cafes, and bars.

Calle Mayor runs parallel to Rambla Nunez and is a typical city street, worth having a look and walking up the full length.

Inside old town, that is inside the original fort/castle which goes from Monte Banacantil to the Rambia, is a pleasant row of restaurants, plazas and more restaurants, all kinds of food and touring musicians, tips requested.

Walked down Calle Mayor on our recent holiday to Alicante lots of times while exploring this beautiful part of the city .
The buildings that line this street are superb ,ancient dwellings that are very impressive ,the street brings you onto several important architectural sites and there's great pubs, bars and restaurants along the street and the squares it passes through, all in all a great street to check out if you're planning a trip to Alicante.

We did an awful lot of exploring when we were in Alicante and walked up and down the street many times.

It does get busy but this just adds to the appeal as there is always something new to see.

It is lined with lots of great shops and has some terrific bars and restaurants as well.

All of this in a traditional Spanish style which gives it great character and atmosphere.

We visited Alicante in spring and this street was full of people. Don't know how is in night? Must be a great but I was there with kids and needed to go before night. In summer must be to much people so think it was the good time to visit Alicante.
Walking in the city before or after spend some time on the beach is very nice. Think I can do this every day.
