I went to this petite Church and it is very impressive. Old, yet so beautiful and enchanting. Nice window/patios in the side Chapel on the seaward side. I would like to go back there, when I go to visit Alicante again.

It is the oldest and most interesting temple in Alicante with a baroque façade and a single-nave Gothic interior. It is located in a very beautiful square, and it is freely accessible.

There was some sort of festival when I visited.
Strange inscriptions on the outside walls that I couldn't decipher.
Great inside!

From our hotel room we looked right down onto the Basilica and it was quite a sight. With the window open you could sometimes hear someone praying or perhaps later a rowdy group of young students. It was such a sight. I could see from our room that someone had tossed a sneaker up onto the ledge so look at my pic.
Inside was lovely and there was actually a service happening when we entered.
Take your time and soak up everything g here as it is quite majestic s
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.

This church is located at the bottom of the Santa Barbara castle, is one of the oldest in Alicante and one of the most beautiful. Small and welcoming, mass every day at 19.30 if you want to have a real Spanish Catholic experience.

Go on a Saturday afternoon, sit with a glass of chilled, local red in the square opposite the church, and watch the wedding parties come and go. You'll hear traditional Spanish music, see the stunning local women dressed to impress, and get a taste of real Spanish culture.

If not beach weather worth a stroll through the old town and end up at the church where there a little bar / restaurant on the plaza opposite the church. Sometimes in the early evening there is live music on the plaza also adjacent to the large art gallery / museum.

Another church built on the ruins of a mosque is St. Maria. Dating back to the 14th century, it has a single nave and side chapels. The church has two towers and an image of the Virgin Mary is above the doorway. Our guide said the reason why St. Maria’s was not chosen as the bishop’s church is because the bishop lived closer to St. Nicholas and did not want to walk the distance from his home to St. Maria’s. Even if you are not Roman Catholic, take the time to visit the Basilica to see an example of Valencian Gothic architecture. The church is located in the Old Town and is closed during mass. Plan your time accordingly.

The church's architecture is beautiful. For anyone who appreciates art you will love this church. There are several different styles of architecture used, and has a very elegant feel on the inside. There are several different types of arches starting in the Romanesque time period all the way up to the Baroque time period. Seeing the mixed variety of architecture styles makes this church very unique. See the inside during the day and at night. The natural lighting changes the way you view the inside drastically.
