Very nice harbour
Oct 2020 • Friends
Puerto Viejo de Bermeo is the old harbour of this city, in the coast of Bizkaia Region, in Basque Country. This is the old town of thw city and really it is very nice, you can walk close to the sea and see the very beautiful colorful buildings. Also you can see the waves of the sea: impressive! and some very nice statues of the history of the city: fishermen, a wave and some others. If you like eating pintxos and txakoli (the wine of the region), it is a very good place.

Gorgeous views of the fishing harbor
Sep 2019 • Couples
Bermeo is such a charming Basque town! After parking our car on the street, we walked up the hill to enjoy beautiful views of the fishing harbor full of countless multicolored boats. Then we descended to the harbor to walk on the boardwalk and taking a close look at the picturesque boats. So lovely and atmospheric!

Bermeo dates back to the 13th century and some of the its old streets still never lost their authenticity. Despite its small size, Bermeo is one of the important fishing ports in the Basque Country; hence, the quality of the daily catch in its cozy restaurants.

Choice of restaurants, don't miss Fishermans museum
Aug 2019
The outskirts of the town and main port do not look promising and to be honest we nearly didn't go. Step round the corner to the old port and it's a different world. Good jetty walk, modern museum on fishing in the road above the restaurants and bars. NB the whaling ship museum is not there now.
To park follow the P signs through the town uphill out of the town and park in the rea with new blocks of flats. Walk through streets until you get to the older narrower streets of the old town and then down steep steps to the port.

Walk out on the breakater!
Aug 2018 • Solo
The breakwater can be walked and it must be close to a km. in length. Looking out, the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean: Looking back, all the narrow, multi-coloured buildings lining the malecon/cobble stoned road with good bars/restaurants on the ground floor.

This port still has fishermen leaving from it but not like during its peak when Bermeo was the capitol of the area, before Bilbao.

I did this on a hot day so the breeze felt great, the exercise was undoubtedly beneficial, and a glass of locally made white wine afterward, a reward.
