I’ve been to a lot of churches in Europe. It has to be over 200 by now. And this one is top 10. It’s really nice inside. The paintings on the wall are great. And it feels old and cool. The pillars are also unlike others. And the cross is unique.

You can skip many things in Vic, the Roman temple, the bridge, Rambla del Passeig and even the common Plaza Major and spend more time in here. It has been said before about the history and spirituality of this place but all in a a few words, this is a beautiful cathedral. Also, the cathedral plaza is way better and more beautiful that the main Plaza Major. Pictures attached. Two thumbs up!

I toured the cathedral with a Catalan colleague and then we were treated to a private, pre-arranged tour of the Episcopal Archive and Library by the Father Librarian. A truly remarkable archive, with historic papal bulls from the tenth century and complete runs of diocesan and capitular archives which shed enormous light on the social history of this region throughout the centuries.

The best parts of this building are the original crypt and bell tower. The rebuilt Baroque main vessel is dark and overbearing. Even the Sert paintings don't rescue it from Counter-Reformation excess. Go for the lovely plaza in front and don't miss the crypt (entrance to left of altar) and enjoy the lovely bell tower. Up the hill a bit is also a complete Roman temple!

Anyone that visits a lot of older churches, basilicas and cathedrals will know they all give you a certain feeling of awe when you enter them and gaze around at the detailed art and architecture. This is the first time I got a completely different,y although just as strong sensation from stepping inside this place of worship. The Romanesque style on the inside is unlike any other I've seen before. The walls on the sides and back are covered in extremely large, dark murals using a lot of dark red and black in them with hints of gold here and there. The inside of the building itself is also very dark, with stark squared columns supporting the ceiling. This look may not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. I hear you can pay a very small fee to visit a crypt and cloister, but I wasn't aware of this at the time as I only had a little while in Vic, stopping for a lunch before moving on. Take the extra time to walk around here if you like what you see when you cross the threshold from outside. You'll be rewarded with a very good, very different feeling

Entering a cathedral usually brings a feeling of peace and elevation even when some are a bit dark and gloomy but this one is just terrible. Its so unimaginative, so dark, so square and heavy. The massive square pillars all restored in dark, the walls all covered with dull and dark monochrome paintings of bodies who all seemed to be suffering violence and pain. There are no artifacts of interest or quality except a sense of catholic gloom. The whole place makes you feel horrible and the only thing to do is get out and breath some fresh air.

It is a bit dark inside which gives it that thrill feel and you will enjoy it if you like cathedrals in general.

Impressive Cathedral with mural paintings made by SERT, a universal painter with works in Europe and America. You feel really sensitive.

Nice and quiet church, Vic is very much worth a visit. You should spend the euro to visit the crypt and the cloister.

Having visited a number of Spanish cathedrals already, we were surprised by the different Romanesque style of this cathedral. Not our favorite (but it's hard to compete after seeing Sagrada Familia in Barcelona!)
