The guidebook indicates a five minute walk, from the reception/ cafe to the monastery. We are in the Covid priority class, and capable of a couple of miles a day on the flat. But even in the modest September heat we found the walk somewhat exhausting, and much more than 5 minutes. While the guidebook was English (and two other languages), the audio and signs in the monastery are all Catalan. Thus not a visit we'd do again. But if you are fit then don't be put off by this. The walk will give you glimpses of totally fantastic views. The monastery itself is a fine historic building. The cafe is a lifesaver, we enjoyed our drink after the visit in spectacular surroundings.

The path through the forest is not pleasant at all, it is narrow, with stones and pieces of logs cut at ground level, where you can fall, it is too steep, and it is not for going with children, or elderly people who do not have much agility. Disappointing for me, full of dust, loose stones and no views, just a couple of viewpoints.
The Monastery is very beautiful and, yes, I recommend a visit. Better to go up and down by car than to go through the forest route. You can leave your car at the Parador. There is also a bar-restaurant at the entrance to the Monastery.

There's a bridge that was built in the 11th century, Roman ruins that were incorporated into an ancient house (formerly of the Montcada family, now structurally exposed), an Eposcipal Palace and museum, and several beautiful churches of which the Cathedral is the subject of this review.
The cathedral dates mostly to the 14th and 15th centuries with a sad past. During the Spanish Civil War, anarchists burned the church interiors, killed the priests and nuns, and the photos of them hang on the church walls. While we were there, a nun was praying at a side-chapel.
The church has very many windows of beautiful stained glass. Each side altar is dedicated to a different saint.
I would have liked to spend several hours here. Our short tour stop was really not long enough. In the future, it would be great to see more of Vic's attractions listed. This attraction was "the cathedral" de St. Pere.

We have stayed at the Parador on three occasions, and each time we have walked from the Parador to the monastery. It takes about an hour in each direction, and parts are fairly strenous - but there are delightful views of the lake and surrounding countryside.
You can enter the monastery site through a restaurant - we have never dined there, but have always enjoyed a cold drink there after the walk!
It is worth visiting this 11th Century monastery, but there was some renovation work being carried out this year.

The monastery was very quiet and peaceful on the day we visited. It’s fairly easy to get to up a winding path and has ample car parking facilities. A short walk with stunning views over the gorge takes you to the monastery, which is small but interesting and beautiful. Our visit was made all the sweeter by the arrival of the very friendly monastery cat who was very affectionate! Would highly recommend for a morning/half-day trip.

We were 7 adults and 7 young children so lucky there are no longer more monks here taking vows of silence! Fantastic views, grounds for the kids to let some energy of and just the right amount of info in the buildings themselves to feel like you've learnt something AND kept an eye on the kids. Worth it and check out the view of the church spire poking out of the reservoir as you drive up.

Driving, looking for the monastery is a pleasure in itself because one passes through beautiful natural forest roads where autumnal colors and mushrooms abound, following the meandering Riu Ter. The monastery itself is beautifully situated and as majestic as other famous catalan monasteries. However this one is particularly interesting for the exhibitions proposed within the old walls. It is not just a restoration job but a whole history of the time exhibited within the walls with great depth and understanding . The miniature reproductions of the rooms depicting a functioning 9th century monastery, the medieval reproductions, the sense of belonging to a special past of Catalogne make this visit a very special one

The small scale reconstruction of medieval life in a monastery. A nice escape from our hectic lifestyle and some beautiful design elements such as the tables in the refectory.

Only a short walk from the Paradore de vic sau (4 KM). Beautiful and cheap. There is a good restaurant here which serves wonderful coffee. The building is very interesting with some information in English (take a translator as you'll appreciate it). Generally a very nice walk really.
