Great displays with friendly curators

Bretten is a charming town, and one of its most important sites is the Melanchthonhaus. We enjoyed our visit very much. The curators were friendly, enormously helpful and treated us to a personal guided tour of the place. The only downside was that the tour guide, a wonderful lady, spoke only German and my own high school German was seriously rusty, so that we picked up maybe 30% of what was being said, but with my own background on the famous reformer, we were able to fill in a lot of the blanks. The displays are really very good if you have an interest in the Protestant Reformation. Check on the hours before you go (opened at 2 pm) and make sure you do your homework so you're not entirely lost if you don't have German in your repertoire.

One last note, there is no air conditioning, and the upper floors were hot and stuffy when we visited, but we enjoyed our time all the same.

Private Tour of a wonderful place

Because my wife's (German) cousin is friends with one of the museum's curators (and I am a theologian by 'trade') we were able to have a personal tour of this remarkable gem. For bibliophiles, there are numerous ancient, even first-edition works. It would be difficult (I think) to fully appreciate it without a guided tour, as the signage is not as helpful as it might be. The building is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here!
