The long, entirely pedestrian pier (almost 1 km) is beautiful and panoramic. Beautiful views of the gulf, the islands, Naples, the city of Torre del Greco and Vesuvius which you can almost touch. The pier is all tidy and clean. The small port is characteristic. with the mills from 1911 restored. The roads to get to the port remain a little dirty, but compared to pre-covid a lot has been done in terms of restoration and cleaning.

My wife and I stayed in Torre Del Greco for a week and although we had some excellent views from our hotel, this review is about the city itself. Unfortunately we found it to be neglected and dirty in many parts. It is clear that the problems with the Italian economy have really hit hard here. Many shops and businesses are closed and several of the traffic lights had stopped working but not been repaired. This made it even more hazardous to drive in the city. We were told by locals that many of the people who lived here have been forced to move north in order to find work and this has contributed considerably to the decline of Torre Del Greco.

It is very convenient for exploring the Amalfi coast and Naples but don't come here to enjoy the architecture or surroundings.

We were staying at Hotel Poseidon, just a few blocks from the port, and was ideal to go at sunset and have dinner without worrying about parking. Looks safe and pintoresque.

I was there this month with friends for a visit and we decided to spend the day there
City left to itself about twenty years ago’.
Apart from the port, which in my opinion is no big deal, there are no attractions and entertainment.
Driving then we do not talk about it at all, they remained in the era of carriages.
As for the food, apart from almond milk, they have nothing typical. I asked barista about a good place to have lunch and he said I had to move to Castellammare , Pompeii , Sorrento...
What to say? Evolve!

We booked this hotel for 4 nights on Expedia looking for a location that was easy access to capri, Naples, amalfi. As we took the local train from Naples we exited and it was so run down which some other reviews said that but they didn’t explain how bad it is. It is horrible especially with my kids. The reviews also gave it a 4 star for its price range, they must be false reviews, this is not a 4 star it’s worse than a motel 6 10x’s over. As we walked from train to hotel it seemed not to get better. Mind you we are a budgeting family and hard working not spoiled or too good in any way, but I still do have a certain standard and it’s not a high standard. So we find the hotel and once we got in it was actually nice. They check us in and one thing I did not like was they held our passports and did not check them and give them back right away. (This was our 3rd hotel on our trip and all the hotels always checked passports quickly and than gave them back to us at that time). We had gotten them hours later. When we went to get them the front desk had misplaced some and said they didn’t have them finally they found them. The front desk also said we had more people than what we were checking in. Which was untrue, she had all of our passports! As we get to our room it was sooo dirty! Blood and dirt on walls, food and drinks still in the refrigerator, dirty wash cloth left on counter. Bathing towels were a grey tinge ( not white), beds had rips in sheets and pillow cases. Air conditioning did not work. in our room the phone didn’t have a plug to call the front desk. There was a love seat couch that had a dirty couch cover I lifted it and couch itself was stained all over. The shower was weird it had half of glass door with a spray wand only no over head shower. As we were going down stairs to complain the door jam was lifting. Then in the master suite the air conditioned vent had a store plastic bag covering it so somebody took of the vent and put the bag in the vent so air wouldn’t circulate. It baffles me that no workers notice any of these things they just don’t care. The lobby was renovated but not our 4 different rooms we booked with 3 other families we traveled with. The only bonuses were the sizes of the rooms were spacious and near a train. We all felt the same way about this place it was dirty an unsafe. By then it was to late to go somewhere else. So we decided to stay one night and we left the next day to a beautiful villa in seiana we happened to find in the very last minute. Also while we waited for transportation we went to their breakfast they offered and was not looking good at all. So we all bit the bullet and lost money by purchasing through Expedia for this hotel Poseidon in torre del Greco and I’m not one for losing any money but in this case I did not care it was soooo bad. We’re so happy we left and found our happy place to enjoy our once in a lifetime trip. And thank god we did! This was a learning mistake to make sure you really read reviews and do your homework!

Watch the fishermen working hard. Great to stroll around the harbour. Don't be put off by the look of the area, it's just typical Italian and an area that lacks investment due to the threat of Vesuvious

Torre Del Greco is a stop on the train that comes south from Napoli, (Naples). The town is at the gateway to the Amalfi coast. If you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful, stay while you visit Pompeii or Vesuvius, and taken in the sites of Sorrento, without the crowds, this is a good choice. If you are looking for upscale amenities, this is not your place.

We chose to stay up the hill, about 2 miles out of the main part of town. It is quieter here, but if you like to walk, it really is an easy walk downhill and back up hill. We walked down to the port in 30 minutes and back up in 40 min.

If you are looking for entertainment, night life, beaches, keep heading south. This is a working town, with friendly people, but not much in the way for tourist amenities.

We loved talking to the fisherman, walking through town, enjoying the breeze from our hotel patio. It almost forces you to slow down and rest, which is what we very much needed.

The port area of Torre Del Greco is a working port. Fishing boat repairs and working fishing boats brining the catch alongside makes this an interesting stroll. Once you get onto the sea wall or promontary you have fantatic views acoss Torre Del Greco to mount Vesuvius.

A large sea wall protects the harbour. A number of steep steps to the top, but worth the experience, and watch the sun go down.
Then have a coffee in a bar up the hill from the Port.
