The museum is very educational and covers a number of topics. It gives a very good overview and insight into the relationship Greencastle has with the sea. There is a delightful tea room linked to the museum.
Well worth the visit. We'll done Greencastle.

First time visiting, exceeded our expectations!
Many interesting exhibits, very informative.
Will definitely be back!
We travelled by road from Letterkenny, returned via Lough Swilly ferry from Buncrana.
A very special day.

Myself and my partner did the coastal walk from Moville to Greencastle and called in here for a nosey. We ended up staying hours. We loved it. So interesting and educational. Absolutely loved the virtual reality experiences, it was fantastic and is a must try if you are visiting. We finished off with a pint of Guinness in the Ferryport Bar. A wonderful day.

Kids loved the planetarium and it was good for a rainy day activity on our holiday. The museum had lots of interesting things but our children were a little too young for taking in the information so we rushed around it a bit, as such we probably didn’t get value for our family ticket into museum part - I think adults could spend longer reading all the information. It would be good if in the future there was investment to add some more interactive elements for children - knot tying, paper boat making, labelling up parts of a boat and things that they can touch.

Myself and my husband decided to take our 3 kids on a trip along the Wild Atlantic Way during the Halloween break. We picked a few attractions along the way (weather permitting of course) but the place that we enjoyed the most was the Inishowen Maritime Museum and Planetarium in Greencastle, Co. Donegal.
It was a cold wet day when we reached the coastal village of Greencastle but even on a wet day it looked very pretty. On entering the museum we were welcomed by a lovely young lady and informed of the various attractions available to us. Most welcoming to us was the offer of hot chocolate topped with marshmallows for the kids and two cappuccinos for ourselves (with a choice of scones, tray bakes or cake). We decided to take advantage of the Planetarium which it was explained to us that has now become a new state of the art digital theatre. As our kids varied in ages from 3 -11 we decided that the Enchanted Reef based show would be of interest to all of us. Prior to the show starting we were also shown tailors of Sea Monsters and Dynamic Earth and also a preview of the Stars at night which captured real time night sky for those interested in the planets. Believe it or not our 3 year old actually sat through the whole show as I think he was encapsulated by the fact he was watching a film on the ceiling of the dome theater. We all enjoyed the show(s) immensely and spent a very pleasant afternoon walking around the rest of the Museum. I can willing say that we would recommend the Inishowen Maritime Museum and Planetarium as a place to visit if you are looking for something new that all the family can enjoy and we look forward to visiting the Museum and the Inishowen Peninsula again in the Summer months.

We visited the museum on our last day in Inishowen. It was very interesting, giving lots of information and showing objects related to seafaring, fishing, boat building, etc, in the area. We were glad we took the time to visit it.

I visited the Museum and Planetarium with l social history group from Belfast. Pre-booking was easy and staff very pleasant.

The Museum is situated at Greencastle on the north coast of Co. Donegal. There is an extensive collection of memorabilia as well as actual boats to see here, spread over two floors. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly.

The Planetarium is excellent as well. It is circular in shape and you sit in the most comfortable reclining chairs to watch the display on the circular ceiling. Mind you don't doze over - I think most of us did it is so relaxing!

There is a well-stocked souvenir shop on site, a cafe and picnic tables on lawn outside.

Well worth seeing.

The planetarium in the title was a little confusing. This is a decent small maritime museum with enough to while away a pleasent hour. The planetarium is a smallish circular room with a dome ceiling showing 180 degree view discovery channel style documentaries. There is a choice of five or six different films suited to different ages. We took a three and a five year old. It held the five year olds attention but not the three year old. Overall an hours fun but quite pricey for what it is.
