Beautiful location but terrible maintenance and full of every kinda insects
Aug 2021 • Friends
This is the perfect location if you don’t care about insects… Totally isolated, no Wi-Fi connection (only available next to the main building and with a low signal), if you ask to the owner you will get the answer “go down to the city if you need it”… mobile service signal is very bad (any carrier) and only in some spaces of the house.
The owner is often unreachable and the house needs maintenance and it seems he doesn’t care about it!! Spiders in each corner and behind the furnitures… Scorpions are everywhere in the house during the night while you’re trying to sleep in the HOT SUMMER NIGHTS, no air conditioning, and you can’t leave the window open as long as the garden has a free access for anyone, and it is totally dark, besides there aren’t mosquito nets and every kinda bugs can come inside…!!! Horseflies will bites you all the day at the pool (why don’t put a trap?)… a vacation at the hell!! We were counting down the days to come back home, finally… an experience to forget!!

Winter yoga respite turned nightmare
Dec 2019 • Friends
This was a planned event for me and my 5 friends. We’d wanted to escape our families and significant others for 5 days over the winter break from school. It wasn’t cheap. Food was supposed to be included as was access to the yoga studio and daily instructors also swimming in a heated pool, hot showers and in house laundry . Extras were wine tastings, visits to local restaurants of our choosing and one meal cooked on site by a chef, that turned out to be the owner, who by the way had no idea how to cook anything. All in all this was a comedy of errors from start to finish. We ended up laughing most of the time, the pool was freezing and unusable , the fire was lit daily but the whole house was smoked out because the wood was damp and didn’t burn correctly so all of our clothes smelt like we were camping by a bonfire.
Our king beds were divided in two per Italian style ? 2 quilts per bed.
The towels supplied were like dish towels and never replaced the whole time we were there. No bath mats either the floors were freezing cold. No shower gels or soap provided. Boarding school was reminiscent. The hike into town was about 30-40mins for nice coffees and internet otherwise it was fairly bleak. No TV working or decent wifi so we spent our time drinking wine and admiring the distant view because that’s all there was.
Absolute rip off , we requested a discount and were met with an incredulous “ you’ve got to be kidding me “ dead serious face from the owner James Feinberg who actually believes his place is great, cos he gets away it.
Don’t book this place unless you get it free and even then , bring your own towels, food and drinks

Italian food heaven and yoga bliss
Apr 2017 • Solo
A wonderful setting with amazing vegetarian food freshly prepared daily. Meat lovers in our party did not crave meat at all, and dietary requirements were catered for.
The time of year (end April) meant the yoga studio couldn't be used as it was too cold, although the owner has plans to use solar energy to heat this so retreats outside of Summer can benefit from using this wonderful space. The house is designed to withstand the heat of Summer so take layers/warm clothes if you are visiting Spring/Autumn.

Wonderful location, amazing vegetarian food!!
Apr 2017 • Solo
I had a long weekend here on a yoga retreat. The food was really amazing, fresh local Italian fare, but with a great flavoursome twist, hints of Morocco. The views are great and the house spacious. It is set off the nearby road, so you wouldn't know the house and grounds are there unless you were directed. It's a long but enjoyable walk down into Umbertide. Car probably helpful for most, but not essential if you want to get away from it all.

A retreat at Caimeli is close to what it must feel like to be in heaven. The food is just amazing. James treats cooking like an art and is extremely skilled at it. He uses local, organic, seasonal produce and makes everything from scratch. We dined on home-made Middle Eastern dips, Asian soups, European desserts and home-made Italian lasagna (vegetarian, of course!). Then there is the fresh air and sound of birds. Situated far from the road, you don't hear anything but nature. At night time, everything is completely quiet and after a day of yoga, hiking, meditating, eating nourishing food, and lazing around with a book on the lawn - you sleep like a baby (or an exhausted adult, retreating from the world). It's a really great experience. The only word of warning I have is that in spring and autumn, the house is still quite cold from the winter. So, bring your warm layers with you!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I have tried to create the connection with the surrounding nature and I am so happy that you appreciated all of it. It is true about the house in the early spring and late fall but this is the burden we pay to live in such a place. As John Ruskin wrote the only thing he left out how this beautiful architecture makes living without air conditioners possible but of course he was not alive when air conditioners were invented. In 1873, in his book “The Poetry of Architecture”, John Ruskin wrote: “Simplicity is perhaps the principal attribute by which the Tuscan style farmhouse attains its greatness and recognition in the world. With its simplicity, the Tuscan farmhouse assumes the noble air of buildings of a higher order, while avoiding any ridiculous miniature mimicry of a fake palace. There is a general dignity in its appearance that harmonises beautifully with neighbouring edifices and surrounding landscapes.

Terrible experience
Jul 2016 • Solo
It has taken me a while to get this this review - and read the other positive reviews with some surprise. My experience relates more to the less positive ones - but given the style of personal attack anyone who writes something less than favorable had to suffer I hesitated to write anything. Makes me wonder if the owner only "caters" to certain groups and chooses to disrespect the rest of us, where he feels he can get away with it, especially if you dont travel as a group. The place itself is nice enough. No view but calm. Food ok, with a few highlights. Yoga shala dirty. But for the rest - I strongly caution against going on your own. It was the worst holiday of my life.

Magic place with exceptional quality and creativity of food!

I was in this very special place recently and I must admit that I never expected such a quality and sophistication of the food! James is not only a great cook, but it's a person who knows perfectly the places and traditions of this beautiful Umbrian landscape! Enchanting place, ideal for practicing yoga, meditate or get a great massage!

Oregonian Pilates Retreat at Caimeli
Oct 2016 • Friends
Fall is the perfect time to visit this area of Umbria, Our host James went above and beyond our expectations. We plan to visit again, the accommodations, culinary presentations and flavors were over the top. Our host was very helpful in giving us direction in the immediate area and other parts of italy to visit.

Relax, beautiful location, attention to details
Oct 2016 • Friends
I spent three days yoga retreat @Caimeli, a beautiful location in Umbertide.
I loved it: beautiful view, super refined rooms and outdoor details.
But mostly the owner James and his cooking: a pampering experience.

Master Chef a sorpresa ( come innamorarsi della cucina vegana)
Oct 2016 • Friends
The first weekend of October I joined a 3 full day Yoga Retreat in beautiful Caimeli and, despite the hectic daily routine life that followed since those days, I can still feel the benefits of the experience and of this amazing place. In fact, I realized on my way home on Sunday, not only the good Yoga, the great teacher, the nice company and the amazing massages made the weekend unique. Caimeli is filled with its own unique energy and James the owner allows you to discover it with your own times. I must say, the biggest surprise in fact was him and his delicious recipes. As one of the girls was vegan James prepared special recipes and every meal was a pleasant new surprise. We fell in love with his cuisine and while practicing we could smell it... we couldn't wait to know what he had prepared! ( I want to go back to learn how to cook vegan food, a real new world to me) The location is strategic, you are literally in the meddle of the greener country and the only things you hear are birds, bees, roosters, horses...The village is not far and I am sure a pleasant walk can take you there in no more than 20 minutes. The casale is big, comfortable, clean with simple but stylish and essential furniture. Shower is great as well as the beds. It rained the whole time and it was humid outside, but still the place was super cozy. On the last day the sun came out and I can still see James waiving good bye to us with sweet Tia ( the smiling dog ! ) seating next to him. Grazie James I will surely be back !!🙏🏽💕🌿🔝

Thank you so much G. I will be experimenting , creating, forging, forming and designing appetizing morsels all winter for you guys . Hopefully the weather will be more conducive for swimming and if not there is always cooking classes to do. Tia, hopefully , will still be around to greet you and receive as much affection as you can offer. Abbraccio
