Been here with my good secondary school friends.
It is a great place for us to learn more about the animal and taking a nice photo with friends and family.
Every certain hour, the zoo provides some particular performances regularly in any corner of the zoo.
This place is also suitable to visit during the night as the lights will make the surrounding look very beautiful.
Very recommended for all animal lovers.

Hear me right, this is not my first visit. Price ticket went up after they introduce Dino Encounter. 2 adult and 2 kids I paid around RM168. No other facilities been upgraded. Toilet still dirty, broken hose, can’t even flush. No soap, tissue in all toilet I visited (whatmore hand sanitizer). Its 2023 already.
Parking need to pay RM5 per day. Was forced to buy daily coupon, they didnt even offer to just pay the hourly coupon rate which is cheaper. ( We probably only spend 2 hours there). Price is way more expensive than the Zoo Negara, which have a more extensive animals and shows. Open aviary need to pay extra RM6 to enter. Petting Zone need to pay extra RM5. Riding the tram need to pay extra RM4. Feeding elephant RM5. Feeding goat RM5. Tried to take photo and sell to you at every corner. Food prices was mad inside. EVERYTHING NEED TO PAY. Reptile zone closed, lion cage closed. Crocodile was absent (can only spot 2 alligator).
This is a tourist trap. Its about time we end this. Its a waste of time and money.

If you want to come to Zoo Melaka, go on Monday or Tuesday. Parking is free on both these days. And come before noon. When I exited around 3.30pm Monday , there was a long line starting to build up.
The animals while not as extensive as zoo negara are well fed and food for petting zoo (rabbits, guinea pigs) and elephants is rm5 each.
The dinosaur section was fun. Gives you a first hand perspective on how large dinosaurs were. Photos with velociraptors are rm50 but its not compulsory to buy. I bought mine since the photo was good.
The Mr Potato RM10 for 5 snack bag near the cockatoos was a good deal. Something you can't get in KL.
Lastly, bring your own water if you don't want to ride the tram or pay rm4 for drinks. You'll be walking roughly 5km - 10,000 steps easily.

The show for night safari was a scare not only to the kids but also to the women.just imagine the volunteer need to kiss and pretend to swallow the snake!....what is that?... the tramp services started quite late and this is surely doesnt portray profesionalism in carrying malaysian image. Just imagine some customers shouted 'jalan jalan' because we have been waiting for the tramp to move for quite a long time. The zoo guider also have guided us poorly with not clear sound system that causes customers at the front left hanging with no clues but only follows the torched areas. I am very disappointed with night safari at melaka. Maybe they need to do benchmarking with night safari Singapore.

It is a different experience when it comes to the 'night' safari. However, when we visit the animals, it is quite dark and only a torch light shown to the animal which I think is insufficient for the visitor to see the animal clearly in the dark. There are also very little animal on show. Plus, it is quite pricey fro around MYR16++

Visiting this zoo on 27th August after checked online the ticket price and operating hour. After 2 hours driving, reached the main entrance of the zoo saw the ticket price is higher than official website price.

Check with the staff, they explained the price is include tax (why they never mentioned on website?). Unfortunately, due to Hari Raya, the night safari is not operating, but the ticket price remain the same. Since i've been driving hours to come, so i bought the ticket.

From the moment i entering the zoo till exit, there were lots of mosquito, please be prepared.

Many animals were sleeping and many cages are empty. Couldn't find hippopotamus, rhinoceros, bears... the most i seem are deers. It took less than 1 hour to walk and visit all the animals, including taking photos. I saw few zoo keeper smoking in the park, I thought zoo should be a smoking-free zone.

I wouldn't advise you visiting this zoo until all the improvement and upgrades are done.

If you insist to visit, prepare antipruritic!!

I visited the Melaka Zoo today and was excited because of what people have told me. Tigers, Lions, Panthers etc. I paid the entry fee of 23.5RM (~ 5.50€) only to see either empty cages or the ground being dug up. No signed telling me for what! I missed the English signs almost throughout the zoo. The toilets were defective. The open ones were filthy and no sign of toilet paper! Apparently that seems normal for Malayans but not for Europeans! It's just a discrace and not worth going, so don't. You haven't missed anything. Sorry but that's how I see it and I paid too much for nothing!

I went to this zoo on 12 May 2013, as a way to spend quality time with the little boy and wifey.
I heard about the big management change in February and the claim to have it on par with Singapore Zoo in 2 years time. So hoping to see some positive changes to the zoo, I was very fired up and so was my kid of 2 years old.

I had been to this zoo before I was married in 2008, and at that time I had a good opinion of the zoo's approach to open concept enclosures , with it's mini safari where you could practically walk side by side with a full grown giraffe.

Unfortunately, this latest visit confirmed my greatest fears about mismanagement of animal welfare in this country.

1.) The mini safari was closed and in a state of disrepair.
2.) The red panda enclosure was empty, probably due to the panda's untimely demise.
3.) The walk in enclosure that housed ring tailed lemurs and love birds and flying foxes was now an overgrown dump and closed to visitors. No animals there.
4.) Miniature pony enclosure, also empty
5.) Mouse deer enclosure, in 2008 there were at least 6 to 8 mousedeers, 2 lyrebirds, a quartet of crown wood doves, and a good sprinkling of egrets. Now, just 1 lonely mouse deer, 1 stork, 2 other unknown species of small deer.
6.) Capybaras, 2 and in a squalid enclosure with a tree blocking the only good view of them.
7.) Tapirs, 2 of them also in enclosures that had seen better days but now are more of twisted metal bars and crumbling masonry.
8.) Walk in aviary with only the common white doves and white egrets. At most I counted about less than 20 birds
9.) 1 miserable estuarine crocodile, a handful of false gharials
10.) 3 small Asiatic elephants that just stood there with no sign of enrichment toys or even a hanging log toy.
11.) 1 solitary clouded leopard
12.) 1 normal leopard pacing away in a denuded enclosure
13. ) 2 balding and extremely dirty ostriches that could do with a good wash.
14.) Overgrown primate islands that have no view of primates, at least we heard them so probably they're there somewhere.
15.) 1 chimpanzee, at the time either sleeping or maybe already dead and awaiting discovery
16.) 1 orangutan, just sitting there with a sad look on its face
17.) 1 Malayan wild dog? I didn't know Malaysia had a wild dog species.
18.) 1 solitary African lion, female and in an enclosure that was overgrown with water lilies.
19.) 3 tigers all lazing around in slightly better enclosures compared to the lion.
20.) The tortoise garden was more garden then tortoises and the few I saw had all the liveliness of a homeless drunk then a truly lively animal.
21.) A flamingo enclosure with no flamingos, they later appeared in the animal show.
And that's just the animals. As for the condition of the walkways for visitors:
1.) Uneven roads that you could twist an ankle on.
2.) Trees growing in the middle of the walkway
3.) Don't even think of bringing a baby stroller or pram, unless you want to twist your back negotiating the bad walkways. I brought one for my kid, and I cursed myself for doing it.
4.) No map of the zoo so you don't know where you're headed or what is the next exhibit. Fortunately I'm a local so I more or less knew.
5.) Throughout the visit, I also found that the mosquito population was doing well, at least there is one species that is doing well in a zoo.
6.) The aviary is dark and dank, one would easily mistake it for a cave of horrors instead of an aviary.
7.) The otter enclosure was good with lively otters, but no shade for anyone wanting to watch this playful occupants swim.

I tend to disclaim any news from the local tabloids due to their less than honest spin on local news, but seeing what I saw on this visit, I am inclined to believe the news that indeed 230 animals were unaccounted for after the management handover.

And a word on the animal show. Perhaps this was the only saving grace of Melaka zoo. The handlers were well trained and very gentle with the birds. However if I were to fork out RM 20 just for an animal show I should have gone to the animal theatre at Pulau Melaka.

I realize that maybe its too soon to expect much from this once well known zoo. After all the former Chief Minister of Malacca , Ali Rustam , boasted a RM 2 million overhaul of the zoo to match Singapore zoo in 2 years time. I can only hope it will come to fruition as planned in 2015. As for now and the immediate future, I can only say that I will not be going back to Zoo Melaka again. Now that the zoo has a new management team, it needs to think very carefully what it intends to do with the animals and enclosures and also the overall visitor friendliness of the zoo. Failing to improve anything about this zoo, they might as well close it down and donate the animals to better zoos or risk making the biggest mockery of Malacca's tourism attraction as nothing more than a rip off for unsuspecting tourists and locals.

Dear YogiBear37, Thank you for taking the time to review Melaka Zoo Night Safari. It was an impromptu plan to visit the zoo during our last visit to Melaka.

We were there on a Friday and it was somewhat crowded. Since it was a long walk, we decided to take the Buggy ride which is RM60 for a 6 seater. The wait was long but definitely worth it. We had a tour guide who explained about the animals during the tour.

The elephant feeding was really enjoyable. I would say that the highlight of the trip to the zoo was the elephant feeding. We didn't manage to catch the shows or Tiger feeding.

Just wanted to point out that at the Safari Walk, the distance between the giraffe and the passers by seems to be very close. There is even a sign in Malay that says we should aware since the giraffes bite. I think more safety precautions should be taken by the zoo authorities to ensure that the visitors are within safe distance from the animals. There are also monkeys roaming the zoo unattended which may also cause havoc for the visitors.

Small kids would enjoy the trip to this zoo. It is also a good learning experience for them.

I was at Melaka Zoo & Night Safari lately and boy, have they changed, heard that its privatised and therefore this change is really a welcome. We were greeted by the colorful Macaws at the 1st point of entry and was then the photography section. As it was a hot day, we took the tram to go 1 round then started to walk thereafter. The animals on display has grown to many types as I was there 10 years ago and it is really different now. We were informed that this year is their 50th year and will be celebrating with a much activities planned up soon for the upcoming school holidays. One highlight of the trip was the Bird Show which is a must-watch, unfortunately we were not able to proceed with the Night Safari but would go back there one day. This Zoo is advocating Recreation, Education & Conservation through its many programs planned up. Is happy that Melaka Zoo s up to par with its immediate counterparts worldwide. Keep it up!
