Good way to get to the top

Is the steepest cable car in whole of Japan, and you really believe it's true when onboard. Saved you a lot of time, and doesn't really cost that much (8USD or so).

With the Kio line you can buy a train ticket that include the cable car. If you decide to buy only the cable car or chair lift ticket the price is around 450Y one way. You can hike back or take the cable car p and chair lift down. The cable car is very steep, and fun to take.

Probably the safest and fastest way to get to the midpoint of the mountain. You may need to stand though but it's only a short journey upwards. The station at the midpoint has stalls from which you can stock up on snacks and drinks before your hike.

Happy we chose the cable car rather than hiking up. Great views along the way. Cheap fare. Very steep in parts, certainly easier than hiking up

A nice option if you do not want to hike up or take the chairlifts. Great for people scared of heights. It's very cute and has nice views on the way up. I was there at 8am and there was next to no queue :)

Nice weather and scenery in February. Steep ride both ways but Japanese kids are having fun. Good to go but lots of tourists and locals.

We took the chairlift up the mountain and opted to go back down by cable car just for a different experience. The ride was short and boring and the cabins are small and so uncomfortable! If you have the time take the chair lift instead!

Tha'ts what we did. Took about 1 1/2 hours to hike the 2,2 kms up to the top of Mt. Takao, crossing streams and climbing over boulders and huge roots and only a few minutes down by cable car. Much more interesting going down as its into a tunel and on a 45 degree angle.

We climbed to the top of Takaosan but took the cable car back down. This is a great way to go either up or down if you wish to conserve a little energy from doing something later in Tokyo. Only took a few minutes to reach the bottom of this steep slope and a great rest to the feet!

We decided to begin the hike by riding on the cable car to get a good leg up on the walk.

When we exited the cable car we saw toilets straight ahead - and decided that it would be a good plan to use them not knowing what we’d find along the trail. Because of their location they were quite... More
